This is a humorousessay onnotability. It containshumorous advice or opinions of one or more Wikipedia contributors and isn't meant to be taken seriously. This is not an encyclopedia article or one ofWikipedia's policies or guidelines and may not representcommunity consensus. |
| This page in a nutshell: Notability isprobably not temporary, but notability also does not last forever, because the notability guideline itself will not last forever, and neither will Wikipedia. |

It is well-known among Wikipedians that"Notability is not temporary" and it"does not degrade over time". This may be true, if one assumes thatentropy does not exist. For the purposes of adeletion discussion, for instance, you should probably assume that Wikipediawill indeed last forever withno problems and nothing will stop us from carrying out our noble mission of spreading only the knowledge thatwe deem worthy.
However, this line of reasoning ignores the fact that entropy DOES exist,Wikipedia will not last forever, and we are all inevitably going todie and/or be erased as theuniverse collapses beneath us. Even if this does not happen, all the websites in the world will die, including Wikipedia, and then it will be impossible to cite any sources or prove that anything is notable because there will be no sources.
Therefore, while notability may not strictly be temporary, it is also true thatnotability is not eternal. However, youshouldn't care about this.
