Committee tasks

[edit]

A brief informal discussion among the meetup attendees revealed the following tasks to be considered important by at least some, which may inform the more formal committee formation at the next meetup (chapter meeting), while some of the following may pertain equally to all committees.

  • assessment
  • define how to measure and document effort and success
  • record meetup contributions (lightning talks etc.; at least the titles)
  • prepare handout for event (directed in particular at newcomers)
  • branding
  • logo design
  • graphic design (“[The annual report] needs to pop!”)
  • learn outreach from the DC full-time outreach manager
  • fish purveyance/food for events
  • review and approval of travel mini-grants
  • internal-event organization (meetups)
  • record-keeping re: members
  • record-keeping re: finance
  • keep postings about events in sync (meetup.com, WP, …)
  • write and disseminate newsletter
  • rethink connections with institutions vs. individuals (institutional members?)
  • capture meeting minutes for inclusion in newsletters
  • research management best-practices for non-profits (Non-Profit Quarterly, Non-Profit Coordinating Committee of New York)
  • disseminate best practices for wiki events (edit-a-thons etc.)
  • coordinate/provide WP training
  • train the trainers
  • improve the chapter’s self-presentation
  • create fee schedule and policy for edit-a-thons solicited by for-profit entities

@Barbara (WVS): That hotel hostsHackers on Planet Earth which is a highly wiki-friendly event. The cheapest and best options are probably with AirBNB, but if you need standard dependable lodging at a hotel then that place works. Blue Rasberry(talk)21:05, 28 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Blue, can you come a little early? Since I am going to be in town for the whole day on the 30th, I want to make the most of it.Barbara (WVS)  23:05, 28 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Barbara (WVS): I definitely will be at the meeting venue at 6 (one hour early). I will email you... Blue Rasberry(talk)21:46, 29 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
