Notes:

References in arbitration remedies to "GSCASTE"should be read as referring tosocial groups, explicitly including caste associations and political parties related to India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal.
Sanctions that would previously have been logged here should now be logged atWP:AELOG#SA.
All sanctions previously imposed under GSCASTE remain in force. In place of the original appeals rules, they may be modified or appealed under the same terms asWikipedia:Contentious topics § Appeals and amendments. Users appealing such a legacy sanction should list "GS/CASTE" as the mechanism they were sanctioned under.

This page isa log for acommunity-authorised discretionary sanctions regime or acommunity-designatedcontentious topic.
It is used to record notifications issued and sanctions imposed under that regime, as specified below. Changes to this page must adhere to thediscretionary sanctions procedure or thecontentious topic procedure, depending on when the general sanctions were imposed and their exact wording.

Community discussions

A2012 community discussion at theadministrators' noticeboard placedall pages about social groups, explicitly including caste associations and political parties related to India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal undercommunity discretionary sanctions.

Subsequent enforcement tended to treat this sanction more akin to the "related to X, broadly construed" wording seen in most other sanctions.A 2023 discussion at the administrators' noticeboard found no objection to formalizing existingde facto practice, expanding the sanctions' scope topages related to South Asian social groups, broadly construed.

Remedies

Sanctions imposed cannot be undone by another administrator without approval of the sanctioning administrator or an appeal at theadministrators' noticeboard. Pages may be tagged with{{Gs/talk notice|sasg}}, which can be used to indicate that articles are within the scope of these sanctions. Prior to being sanctioned, editors can be notified of these sanctions with the{{subst:Gs/alert|sasg}} template. Use the {{subst:Community sanction}} template when imposing sanctions. For blocks, use {{subst:Uw-csblock}}.

The standard set ofdiscretionary sanctions are imposed onall pages related tosocial groups, broadly construed—be they castes, communities, tribes, clans, kootams, gotras, etc., and explicitly including caste associations and political parties—related toIndia,Pakistan,Sri Lanka,Bangladesh andNepal. This includes biographies that mention subjects' membership in such groups.
