It is not anencyclopedic article, nor one ofWikipedia's policies or guidelines; rather, its purpose is to explain certain aspects ofWikipedia:Article titles. It may reflect differing levels ofconsensus andvetting.

Titles tell readers what an article is about.

Article titles should be precise, recognizable, and neutral. Generally:
DO:
Use themost common name inEnglish for the subject
Follow the pattern of similar articles
Usesentence case, and prefersingular nouns
Check forspecial naming conventions
Createredirects from other plausible titles
If necessary,disambiguateas naturally as possible
If the topic is ambiguously named, use ahatnote ordab page


DON'T:
Don't make titleslonger than necessary
Don't usejudgmental words in descriptive titles
Don't start with"A", "An", or "The" except inproper names
Don't put titlesin quotes; useformatting templates instead
Don't usespecial characters if avoidable
Don'tdisambiguate more than necessary
Don't createsubsidiary titles that look likesubpages
