Calamity Jane (grunge band)

[edit]
Calamity Jane (grunge band) (edit |talk |history |protect |delete |links |watch |logs |views) – (View AfD |edits since nomination)
(Find sources: Google (books ·news ·scholar ·free images ·WP refs·FENS ·JSTOR ·TWL)

Of the current sources in the article:

  1. Interview with a member, therefore a primary source
  2. Also an interview
  3. MusicBrainz, a directory listing which only verifies the existence of the album
  4. A Consequence article which, while reliable, only mentions Calamity Jane in passing
  5. A Substack post from one of the members
  6. Blog posts from one of the members

Of these, only the Consequence article is independent coverage, but it's not significant as they are only name-dropped in passing.

"Gilly Ann Hanner" + "Calamity Jane" turned up only seven results on newspapers.com. Of them, onlythis review is significant third-party coverage. The rest were just routine name-drops of them as concert openers. Additionally, no results for "Gilly Ann Hanner" turn up at all outside Washington or Oregon, which is telling. CompareWikipedia:Articles for deletion/Donora (band), where no results for that band turned up outside of their home state of Pennsylvania.

The only result for "Gilly Ann Hanner" + "Calamity Jane" on World Radio History was a passing name-drop in a music magazine, reviewing a separate project from 2000 in which Hanner was involved.

Google Books turned up multiple books about Nirvana which mention the concert at which Calamity Jane was an opener. However, the coverage is still extremely scant and mostly focused on Nirvana. To wit:

  1. I Found My Friends is an oral history that interviews Gilly Ann Hanner, so it is a primary source.
  2. Nirvana FAQ dedicates one paragraph, and at least has the decency to name the members, but still only talks about them in passing and focuses mainly on Nirvana.
  3. The Rough Guide to Nirvana also dedicates a paragraph or two to the concert, but still says very little about Calamity Jane themselves.
  4. Nirvana: The True Story dedicates a couple sentences, but then mostly dives into a recollection of the event by a person who appears to have been Nirvana's guitar tech. It also fails to mention anything about Calamity Jane other than that they were an opener.

The concert with Nirvana seems to be a pretty non-trivial moment in Nirvana's career, given how often it's brought up in material on Nirvana. But notability isWP:NOTINHERITED from asingle opening act gig that went wrong. Also, the fact that every mention of Calamity Jane centers on the singular Nirvana opener would suggestWP:BLP1E is at play here.

I could see a case for merging/redirecting toNirvana (band) orList of Nirvana concerts, especially given that this concert is not mentioned at all in their article despite multiple sources on Nirvana bringing it up. However, I don't see anything here suggesting that Calamity Jane themselves meet any criterion ofWP:NMUSIC or have otherwise crossed theWP:BLP1E threshhold.Ten Pound Hammer(What did I screw up now?)17:38, 15 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

A few literary analyses do not establish notability, that is done to many poems and literary works without making them individually notable. The poem can be discussed comfortably enough in the article about the poet.Festucalextalk13:30, 8 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see anything in the GNG saying that literary analysis wouldn't count for notability. Reviews count as coverage for movies and music. As you are a far more experienced editor than I am, I trust your judgement but would like to know your reasoning.

I am an unashamedHonorverse fan. Which doesn't change the sad fact that this gigantic (250kb) list is pure unadulteratedWP:FANCRUFT, with just two primary references, and failsWP:NLIST. PerWP:ATD-R I suggest this is preserved in a redirect form (and fear not, fans, the content is generally better developed at honorverse wikia already).Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here05:42, 31 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect per nom. This list is clearly non-notable with a lack of strong coverage and WAY too much fancruft, but a redirect preserves history if anyone wants to merge anything over later. As an anthology, unless there's a strong recurring cast, a list does not seem necessary here. Magneton Considerer:Pokelego999 (Talk) (Contribs)05:12, 1 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. Per AFDISNOTCLEANUP, the sourcing needs improvement, but this is a highly notable series and the list, while extensive, is useful. It would be ridiculous for the primary article about the series to have this list, it was appropriately broken into a separate article. The comparison to the Wikia for the topic is apples and oranges. Might be worth trimming a bit, but frankly, “every Tom, Dick, and Harry” is a content discuss, not an AFD discussion. Per NLIST: “Notability of lists (whether titled as "List of Xs" or "Xs") is based on the group. One accepted reason why a list topic is considered notable is if it has been discussed as a group or set by independent reliable sources, per the above guidelines; and other guidelines on appropriate stand-alone lists.” Further, “The entirety of the list does not need to be documented in sources for notability, only that the grouping or set in general has been. Because the group or set is notable, the individual entries in the list do not need to be independently notable, although editors may, at their discretion, choose to limit large lists by only including entries for independently notable items or those with Wikipedia articles.” Full stop, end of story. Keep the list, clean it up.Montanabw(talk)02:40, 2 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep per the significant coverage in multiple independentreliable sources. The subject passesWikipedia:Notability (people)#Basic criteria, which says:

People are presumednotable if they have received significant coverage inmultiple publishedsecondary sources that arereliable, intellectually independent of each other, andindependent of the subject.

    • If the depth of coverage in any given source is not substantial, then multiple independent sources may be combined to demonstrate notability; trivial coverage of a subject by secondary sources is not usually sufficient to establish notability.

From Google Translate: "It is known that Hau Hoang is a former student of Finance at the Hanoi Academy of Finance. Her family has a tradition of working in the military. Her father currently holds the rank of Colonel, and her mother is a Lieutenant Colonel. Previously, her parents guided her towards a stable and easy job. After graduating, the 9X generation (born in the 1990s) worked at a media company for only 3 months because the office environment didn't suit her personality and interests. In 2017, Hau Hoang began composing, performing, and posting parody songs on YouTube such as "Drinking is also a passion," "So what if I'm short?", the "Tam Cam story that Hau Hoang is about to tell" series, "The Power of the Red Star," etc. Gradually, her parody music videos received a lot of attention and garnered a large number of views. From the beginning of 2020, Hau Hoang no longer parodied popular songs by other artists; she moved to a further limit: singing new songs produced or commissioned by her own team. Hau Hoang's approach of creating parodies on original music that she owns is a distinguishing feature in today's Vpop."

There is sufficient coverage inreliable sources to allow Hậu Hoàng to passWikipedia:Notability#General notability guideline, which requires "significant coverage inreliable sources that areindependent of the subject".

Multiple issues — almost all of the sources are links to encyclopedias, dictionaries, and, in one instance each, a Google search and the Book of Revelation. The article is not written appropriately and LLM involvement is suspected. It is a clearWP:TNT target, and I would have blanked the current text and left a stub had I been able to find any suitable sources for this subject. Having failed to do so, I bring it to AfD.Einsof (talk)03:24, 8 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

I'm finding a book[1] (found online) with a note "Une version assez différente de cet article a été publiée dans le "Bulletin annuel du Centre international d'études romanes", 1998, p. 251-290. - Extrait de : "Arte medievale", (2002)no 2". Also an article[2]. Rather obscure but quite sufficient forkeep.Thincat (talk)11:27, 8 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. The Russian article is by the same user and may have been started as a translation fromw:it:stiloforo, which also does not have appropriate sources. These sources you mention seem hard to track down digitally, but I did also findhttps://journals.openedition.org/frontieres/450?lang=en, which at least has a paragraph about them but does not really offer a definition. There may be a definitional problem here becausewikt:en:styophore actually defines the term as the same or similar as acaryatid. The French definitionwikt:fr:stylophore refers to lions but is circular. The Italian definitionwikt:it:stiloforo at least gives something definite (an animal or monster at the base of a column), but in the absence of any usage of the word in English it seems like OR to me to base an en-wiki article on that.Einsof (talk)15:14, 8 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I am elderly and British so (1) I know what aStylophone is and I originally thought this might have been a typo, and (2) I know what acaryatid is – but I'd never seen or heard of astylophore. It isn't OR unless you simply mean there is unreferenced material. Finally, (3) my writing style seems alien to many (most) editors here – a bit like a LLM!Thincat (talk)15:59, 8 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep: A brief of scan ofGoogle Scholar shows extensive use of the term in academic literature. Also, this article is better sourced than many other articles on architectural elements/terms.
    • Question: Aren't encyclopedias and dictionaries the sources we're supposed to use for articles?Prburley (talk)
Encyclopedias and dictionaries, beingtertiary sources, can supplement Wikipedia articles but are not supposed to be the main foundation on which they are built. We are mainly supposed to use secondary sources, whichBechamel has been adding to this article since the AfD started.
      • Thanks for the clarification, I'm going to read those guidelines. I catalog a lot of encyclopedias at work, they straddle primary, secondary, tertiary, and outright nonsense.Prburley (talk)

DeleteEndemic COVID-19. This article is aWP:POVFORK of the mainCOVID-19 andCOVID-19 pandemic articles. Whether COVID-19 is endemic is a subject of ongoing scientific debate, not a settled separate topic warranting a standalone article.

By creating a page titled "Endemic COVID-19", the article inherently violatesWP:NPOV by presenting a contested hypothesis as a distinct reality. The content relies onWP:SYNTH, combining definitions and opinion pieces to advance a narrative that contradicts major health organizations (like the WHO, which still classifies it as a pandemic). Relevant information about the transition to endemicity belongs in the "Epidemiology" section of the main article, not here.

Furthermore, the article creates a false dichotomy and violatesWP:NOTSOAPBOX by potentially pushing a specific narrative regarding public health policy.Worstbull (talk)09:42, 15 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

We don't usually have an individual article for a Six Nations/Calcutta Cup match and, looking at the coverage, I don't see this match being any more notable than the last few meetings between these two teams. Scotland had won 4 out of the previous 5 Calcutta Cup matches so their win was not a huge, huge shock or anything. I can't judge this event againstWP:LASTING as it only happened yesterday. If this does somehow passWP:GNG orWP:SPORTSEVENT and qualifies for a stand-alone article, then it should be moved to2026 Scotland versus England rugby union match to follow the format of1971 Scotland versus England rugby union match. Scotland should be first in the title as they were the home side.Spiderone(Talk to Spider)09:41, 15 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

This page was created in 2021 byan SPA with the name Ostashevskiy. It was tagged immediately as having questionable notability, and none of the subsequent edits has resolved this. I can find no significant coverage of the company beyond native advertising in trade and lifestyle magazines, mentions in articles covering trade fairs, and mentions of awards which appear to only be given to paid subscribers. The fact that thepage is an orphan (other than being linked from a disambiguation page) adds to my doubts about its notability.~dom Kaos~ (talk)09:38, 15 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

It gives the appearance of a small village, since he left a street between every four cottages. The first cottage was erected here by John Helmkamp , of Fort Wayne . This is cottage 143. The following year the Clemens cottage , No. 144 , was built . It is still occupied by Mrs. Clara Clemens , one of the few cottages which are now occupied by the ori- ginal builders . In 1914 Theodore Geller and his daughter Louise built the large frame building , which served as living quarters bakery , grocery store and green house . The bakery and store were closed out in the late 20s , but Louise Geller , who survived her father by many years, continued to operate the greenhouse until her death — about 1942." inThe 1955 History of Steuben County, Indiana. • Redirect, leaving history intact, andstrong oppose draftifying. Per the above !votes, it seems that consensus is that Yoonchae lacks individual notability, such that she doesn't meetWP:GNG or is aWP:NOPAGE situation. Fine. But that being the case, what's the point in draftifying it? The !votes above offer no rationale for that. Either she's notable enough for a page, in which case the article should remain, or she isn't, in which case we delete the page or leave the article history intact and redirect the page to the band.WP:DRAFTNO point 4 says that draftification should not be used it"there is no chance that the article can be improved to the point that is suitable for mainspace; problems that can't be fixed are reasons for deletion", and lacking notability surely qualifies for that criterion. This has been draftified repeatedly without explanation, and that's unfair on those who then try to work on the article, if the consensus is that this doesn't qualify for an article at this point in time. If that situation changes, the history is right there under the redirect where we need it.  — Amakuru (talk)15:25, 15 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Before anything else, I'd like to point out that Damian Martin's page originally existed as a redirection page toCitizen Sleeper. Damian Martin's notability underWP:GNG is admittedly debatable, particularly when it comes to SIGCOV. However, I believe they qualify underWP:CREATIVE, points 3. and 4.c).
In full honesty, I decided tobe bold primarily for the sake ofWP:CAT, especially because Damian Martin belongs to several categories that are sparsely populated and I believe users looking into said categories may welcome the possibility to learn about Damian Martin through CAT, which wasn't possible with the previous status of the page as a mere redirect.Arandomfolk (talk)15:00, 7 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

@11WB Answering your latest comment here as requested by Svartner:

First, I apologize if my tone got dry yesterday. I have to admit I am frustrated that you promptly nominated my stub as AfD, then didn't react to my answer for a week yet quickly answered Kelob with apparent cherry-picking, which makes it hard to keep assuming good faith. And I had a very long and tiring day yesterday, which didn't help my mood and my ability to assume good faith. To answer your points/requests:

  • I'm not disregarding your comment, I'm saying it has no relevance to what Kelob and I are saying because we're not looking for SIGCOV of to satisfy the GNG. By the way, as mentioned inWP:TRIVIAL, “On the other hand, the notability guideline doesn't require that the subject is the main topic of the source material, only that it's more than a trivial mention.” I'd argue the Financial Times describing Damian Martin as “one of the best writers in modern gaming” isn't trivial. Short, yes. Trivial? No. It's neither trivia nor a tangent.
  • Wrt how Damian Martin passes CREATIVE:
  • Criterion 3: “The person has created or played a major role in co-creating a significant or well-known work or collective body of work. In addition, such work must have been the primary subject of multiple independent periodical articles or reviews, or of an independent and notable work (for example, a book, film, or television series, but usually not a single episode of a television series)”
Damian Martin is the primary creator of all three games they released as the one-person development studio Jump Over The Age:In Other Waters,Citizen Sleeper andCitizen Sleeper 2. A quick glance at their respective pages is enough to check that they satisfy the criterion of being “the primary subject of multiple independent periodical articles or reviews”.
  • Criterion 4: “The person's work (or works) has: (a) become a significant monument, (b) been a substantial part of a significant exhibition, (c) won significant critical attention, or (d) been represented within the permanent collections of several notable galleries or museums.”
In Other Water was received favorably and Citizen Sleeper 1 & 2 were critically acclaimed and are the recipients of a couple of prestigious awards and were nominated to multiple more, so Damian Martin passes 4.c).

TL;DR: Passes under both WP:CREATIVE criteria 3 and 4.c).Keep, or at the very least revert back to a Redirect instead of deleting.Conflict of interest: creator of the stub.Arandomfolk (talk)12:35, 15 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

The film does not appear to be notable, with no independent coverage outside of reviews, which are quoting from the producers anyway. Article is also likely AI generated; funnily enough the entire article makes no mention of Palestine despite that being the subject of the film.SecretSpectre (talk)11:16, 7 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

The film is flopped hardly 11 passes sold in last week no credibility no box office nothing. you cant find about anything related to movie online just a personal branding on some pages.Wahabsubzwari (talk)10:16, 10 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Article about a television writing team, notproperly sourced as passing inclusion criteria for television writers. As always, people are not automatically entitled to have Wikipedia articles just because they have jobs, and must be shown to have specific noteworthy achievements, supported byWP:GNG-worthy coverage in reliable sources, to establish that they're more special than other people who also have jobs. But as written, this essentially amounts to "writers who exist" rather than "writers who have earned X, Y or Z distinction", and citesonly a single news brief about them leaving one show's writing team for sourcing. But one footnote isn't enough to get them over GNG all by itself, and the article doesn't say anything about them that would be "inherently" notable enough to exempt them from having to pass GNG.Bearcat (talk)15:11, 7 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

@Bearcat Hello. You don't think that sources are enough to prove they meetWikipedia:CREATIVE?Nobody's Watching is very much their baby and their other contributions to notable series (includingCommunity) seem sufficiently important. Examples of coverage to prove that (and not GNG passdirectly) include:https://screencrush.com/community-season-4-writers/https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-reviews/superior-donuts-review-971121/https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/kevin-hart-comedy-snapped-up-644011/ I would tend to think we canKeep a page about them.~2026-33418-5 (talk)16:38, 7 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Firstly, it's not my job toguess that other sourcesmight existbeyond what's actually beenshown to exist. If you think that a topic has enough sources to get a Wikipedia article, then it'syour job touse those sources in the article, not my job topresume that there are more sources out there that nobody has ever bothered to cite at all.
Secondly, it isn't necessarily enough that a sourcementions their names — there's a certain level of "about them" that a source has to pass before it counts as a notability builder, and not every web page that has their name in it necessarily always passes that level, so not every web page you can find with their name in it necessarily counts as proof of notability. It's also questionable whetherScreen Crush would count as areliable source at all, as it's not a well-known or well-established media outlet of record.
So if you can fix the article with properly reliable sources that are about them, then just fix it rather than giving me a hard time for assessing the article as inadequate in its existing state.Bearcat (talk)16:46, 7 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Wooow....Is there any reason for you to reply like that? With that attitude and tone?I amgiving you a hard time for assessing the article as inadequate in its existing state??? By simply asking you your opinion after presenting sources? No way I am replying here anymore or edit that page. You're most welcome, congratulations, goodbye.~2026-33418-5 (talk)16:53, 7 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Comment: I tried searching for similar duos, and all I've found are double acts likeFry and Laurie orAbbott and Costello. Two people who write together isn't the same thing as a double act. It does appear that they have landed multiple television gigs as producers for shows over the years, but all of these are press releases.Dateline,Vulture,Deadline.
