
Wiśniówka orvyshnivka (Ukrainian:вишнівка) is a type ofliqueur (Polish:nalewka,Ukrainian:наливка,nalyvka), or cordial, traditionally made in Poland and neighbouring Ukraine bymacerating (soaking) sourcherries invodka/horilka orneutral spirits.[1][2]
It can be purchased ready-made,[1] or made at home using just sour cherries,sugar and alcohol.[3] It is one of the most common and popular types of nalewka, usually made at the end of summer. Typically, the alcoholic content ranges from 30% to 50%.
In Ukrainian lands during theCossack timesvyshnivka was traditionally produced by soaking fruit (cherries) in horilka for at least two months. The resulting drink attained the taste and aroma of the fruit. Cherrynalyvka was the most popular variety of this type. It would be frequently used as a present byCossack starshyna and was exported to theRussian Empire andCrimean Khanate.[2]
