TheWhitewater River is a 14.6-mile-long (23.5 km) river that flows south from headwaters inTransylvania County, North Carolina, overUpper Whitewater Falls andLower Whitewater Falls before crossing intoSouth Carolina and enteringLake Jocassee, the reservoir behind Lake Jocassee Dam.
In Lake Jocassee the Whitewater River is joined by theToxaway River to form theKeowee River. The confluence is submerged beneath the waters of Lake Jocassee. Via the Keowee andSeneca rivers, the Whitewater River is part of theSavannah River watershed.
