TheWhite Mountains Region is atourism region designated by theNew Hampshire Division of Travel and Tourism.[ 1] It is located in northernNew Hampshire in theUnited States and is named for theWhite Mountains , which cover most of the region. The southern boundary of the region begins atPiermont on the west, and runs east toCampton , then on toConway and theMaine border. The northern boundary begins atLittleton and runs east toGorham and the Maine border.[ 2] The region to the north is known as theGreat North Woods Region , which should not be confused with the larger and more generalGreat North Woods .
The region includes the southern part ofCoos County and northern sections ofGrafton County andCarroll County .

The region is bisected into east and west portions byInterstate 93 (from Campton to Littleton). Other major highways in the region includeU.S. Highway 302 (Woodsville to Conway), New Hampshire State Route 16 (from Gorham to Conway), State Route 10 (from Littleton to Piermont), andU.S. Route 2 fromLancaster toShelburne .U.S. Route 3 parallels I-93, except north ofFranconia Notch , where it branches off toTwin Mountain and Whitefield.
TheCohos Trail andAppalachian Trail both traverse the White Mountains region.
