Welcome to Earth is a television series that follows actorWill Smith, as he sets out to offer an insight into some of the world's most remote and uncharted locations. The program debuted as aDisney+ Original on 8 December 2021, under theNational Geographic banner, with all six episodes airing at once.[1] The title is a reference to a line of dialog spoken by Smith as the character, Captain Steven Hiller, in the filmIndependence Day.
Will Smith is guided by experienced National Geographic Explorers, traveling to places such as remote islands in thePacific, to theNamib Desert.[2]
After filmingOne Strange Rock, National Geographic suggested Will Smith to become the narrator of a new television program.[3]Welcome to Earth was filmed during theCOVID-19 pandemic.[3] The program was produced for Disney+ byNutopia,Westbrook Studios andProtozoa Pictures.[citation needed]
