Wayne Lee Vaughn is an American producer, keyboardist and arranger best known for his work with the bandEarth, Wind & Fire. Vaughn has also worked with other preeminent artists such asthe Brothers Johnson,Patti LaBelle,Jennifer Holliday,Troop andTerrace Martin.[1][2]
Wayne Vaughn was born and raised inLos Angeles, California. When he was nine years old he started playing the flute at primary school. At the age of 13, he began playing a piano which his parents had bought for him. After graduating fromUCLA with a bachelor's degree in Music and Composition in 1976, he metQuincy Jones,the Brothers Johnson's producer. Vaughn eventually performed as a keyboardist on the Brothers Johnson's 1978 albumBlam!.Blam has been certifiedplatinum in the US by theRIAA.[1][2][3][4]
During 1978, Vaughn metMaurice White, the leader ofEarth, Wind & Fire. Within the next year, he collaborated withAretha Franklin on her albumLa Diva andPatti LaBelle on her albumIt's Alright with Me. He eventually worked with Earth, Wind & Fire as a producer, composer and keyboardist on their 1981 LPRaise! and 1983 albumPowerlight.[1][2][4]
Vaughn later collaborated withJennifer Holliday on her 1983 albumFeel My Soul and Earth, Wind & Fire on their 1983 LPElectric Universe. Vaughn went on to perform on Maurice White's 1985self-titled album and compose onPatrice Rushen's 1986 albumWatch Out. He then collaborated with Earth, Wind & Fire on their 1987 LPTouch the World.Touch the World has been certified gold in the US by the RIAA.[5][6][1][2][4]
Vaughn also worked withVesta Williams on her 1988 albumVesta 4 U andTroop on their 1988 LPTroop.Troop has been certified gold in the US by the RIAA.[7][1][2][4]
Vaughn went on to collaborate with Earth, Wind & Fire on their 2003 albumThe Promise andTerrace Martin on his 2016 LPVelvet Portraits.[8][1][2][4]
