Waves Breaking is a 1881 canvas by the FrenchImpressionist painterClaude Monet (1840–1926). It was painted on the coast ofNormandy and follows the example ofGustave Courbet's marine paintings as in having been executed with the painter having faced out toward the sea.[1] The work is held atLegion of Honor which is part of theFine Arts Museums of San Francisco. It is considered a work ofMarine art.[2][3]
