TheWatertown Public Opinion is anewspaper published inWatertown, South Dakota, United States, serving easternSouth Dakota and westernMinnesota. It is fourth largest newspaper in South Dakota and publishes Tuesday through Saturday.[2]
TheWatertown Public Opinion was founded in 1887, two years beforeSouth Dakota statehood.[3] ThePublic Opinion in its first 110 years had a succession of local owners, including Stitzel X. Way,[4] whose family ran it for 94 years before selling to Kenosha, Wisconsin-basedUnited Communications Corporation (UCC) on March 1, 2002.[5]
In 2016, it was sold by United Communications toSchurz Communications out ofSouth Bend, IN.[6] It was sold again in 2019 toGateHouse Media.[7]
