Warner Chilcott (formerlyGalen) was a company in thepharmaceutical industry based inRockaway, New Jersey. It was primarily focused on women's healthcare anddermatology. On October 1, 2013, the company was acquired by Actavis (nowAllergan).

In 1968, SirAllen McClay founded Galen, a sales and marketing organization focused on branded pharmaceutical products in theUnited Kingdom and theRepublic of Ireland.[1]

In 1997, the company listed its shares on theLondon Stock Exchange and theIrish Stock Exchange.[1]

Warner Chilcott

Warner Chilcott was thegeneric drug business ofWarner–Lambert.

The company Warner-Chilcott published at least one pocket book,1000 Calories: Your Diet Program, in 1966, inMorris Plains, New Jersey.

In 1996, it was sold to Nale Laboratories P.L.C.[2]

In 2004, the company was acquired by severalprivate equity firms. In 2006, it became apublic company via aninitial public offering.[3]

Merger of Galen and Warner Chilcott

In 2000, Galen acquired Warner Chilcott and listed itsAmerican depositary receipts onNASDAQ.[1]

In 2004, the company changed its name from Galen to Warner Chilcott.[4]

Post-merger

In August 2004, the company prevailed in a patent case byTeva Pharmaceutical Industries related to Sarafem (Fluoxetine).[5] On May 19, 2006, the company received approval from theFood and Drug Administration for Sarafem.[6]

On October 30, 2009, the company acquired the prescription drug business ofProcter & Gamble for $3.1 billion.[7]

On October 1, 2013, the company was acquired by Actavis (nowAllergan).[8]
