Walter McCoy (born November 15, 1958) is an American formersprinter who qualified for the 1980 U.S. Olympic team but was unable to compete due to the1980 Summer Olympics boycott. He did however receive one of 461Congressional Gold Medals created especially for the spurned athletes.[1] He did compete in the1984 Summer Olympics.[2]
A native ofDaytona Beach, Florida, McCoy attendedSeabreeze High School. TheOrlando Sentinel named McCoy among their list of the best high school track and field athletes inCentral Florida history.[3]
McCoy twice finished on the podium at the BritishAAA Championships finishing second behind fellow AmericanTony Darden at the1981 AAA Championships[4] and third at the1983 AAA Championships.[5][6]
