Walmer Estate is asuburb ofCape Town in theWestern Cape province ofSouth Africa. It lies at the foot ofTable Mountain and is bordered to the south byTable Mountain National Park, to the north-east byWoodstock and to the west byZonnebloem. It covers an area of 0.47 km2.[2]
Walmer Estate was part of the formerDistrict Six area of Cape Town, which was subject to forced removals under the now repealedGroup Areas Act.[3]
The current population of Walmer estate is cosmopolitan, with a population of 17.9%Black African, 55.6%Coloured, 10%Indian/Asian and 8.8%White. The main languages spoken areEnglish andAfrikaans.[4]
The suburb has been experiencingurban renewal.[5]
The suburb is home to the Walmer Estate Primary School[6] and Walmer Secondary School.[7]
