Walter George Pesuit (born March 4, 1954) is a formerAmerican footballoffensive anddefensive lineman in theNational Football League (NFL) for theAtlanta Falcons,Miami Dolphins andDetroit Lions. He playedcollege football at theUniversity of Kentucky.

Early years

Pesuit attended Wintersville High School, where he was an All-stateoffensive tackle, a wrestling and weight-lifter champion in the Ohio Valley Conference.[1] He also practiced thediscus throw and theshot put.

He accepted a football scholarship from theUniversity of Kentucky. He was named a starter atoffensive guard as a sophomore. He was named the starter atleft tackle as a junior. He wasco-captain and the startingleft tackle as a senior.[2][3]

Professional career

Dallas Cowboys

Pesuit was selected by theDallas Cowboys in the fifth round (151st overall) of the1976 NFL draft, with the intention of playing him at thedefensive line. He was waived on August 23.

Atlanta Falcons

He was claimed off waivers by theAtlanta Falcons who used him atdefensive end. On November 3,1976, he was released after one game to make room forlinebacker Jim Cope.[4]

Miami Dolphins

On December 6,1976, he was signed by theMiami Dolphins.[5] He was a backup who played different positions along theoffensive line. He was cut on August 21,1979.

Detroit Lions

Pesuit was claimed off waivers by theDetroit Lions to replaceLarry Tearry who abruptly left the team.[6] That season, he started 5 games atcenter.[7] He was released on August 26,1980.[8] He was later re-signed during the season and released on November 6, to make room forRod Walters.[9]

Chicago Blitz (USFL)

In1983, he signed with theChicago Blitz of theUnited States Football League.

Jacksonville Bulls

TheJacksonville Bulls selected him from theChicago Blitz roster in the 1983 USFL Expansion Draft. In1984, Pesuit played all 18 games as the Bulls' long snapper and a reserveoffensive lineman.

Personal life

His father Walter V., played for theCleveland Rams in theNational Football League as a 5-8 halfback in 1938.
