John Wallace Dashiell (May 9, 1902 – May 20, 1972) was an American professionalbaseballshortstop. He played one game inMajor League Baseball, for the1924 Chicago White Sox.
Dashiell's professional career spanned 1923 to 1938, plus a single game in 1941.[1] He played over 1300 games inMinor League Baseball, initially in thefarm system of thePhiladelphia Athletics.[1]
On April 20, 1924, Dashiell appeared in his lone major-league game.[2] With theChicago White Sox hosting theCleveland Indians, Dashiell entered the game in the third inning, replacing starting shortstopHervey McClellan.[3] In threeplate appearances, Dashiell recorded a ground out, a pop out, and asacrifice bunt.[3] Defensively, he had oneputout, oneassist, and oneerror.[3] The White Sox won the game, 5–4.[3]
Dashiell later was a minor-leaguemanager from 1934 to 1948 in theWest Dixie League,East Texas League,Southeastern League andTexas League.
