Egyptian riverbed in the Sinai Peninsula
Wadi al-Arish is adry riverbed in theSinai Peninsula of Egypt. The river, when it flowed, was 250 kilometers long and flowed into the Mediterranean Sea near the town ofArish .[ 1] Wadi al-Arish is considered by some, including geographerIshtori Haparchi , to be theBrook of Egypt mentioned in theHebrew Bible that formed the southernmost border of theLand of Israel .[ 2]
The Wadi al-Arishcatchment is the largest drainage system in the Sinai Peninsula.[ 3] TheAfrican Humid Period was the last time a river consistently flowed through the riverbed.[ 4]
The Wadi al-Arish was an important site in the 1916WWI Battle of Magdhaba .
