WFST (600AM) is a radio station inCaribou, Maine. It is owned by Northern Broadcast Ministries, Inc.[3][4] WFST airs aChristian talk and teachingradio format with someChristian music programs. WFST calls itself "Family Radio" on the air, but is not associated with the nationalFamily Radio network, based inTennessee.
By day, WFST is powered at 5,000 wattsnon-directional. To protect other stations on600 AM from interference, at night it reduces power to 127 watts. Thetransmittertower is on Sweden Street (Route 181), east of downtown Caribou.[5]
WFST airs national religious programs includingInsight for Living with Chuck Swindoll,Focus on the Family withJim Daly,Turning Point with David Jeremiah andGrace to You with John MacArthur.
Music programs includeSouthern Gospel andChristian adult contemporary music. Overnight, programming is supplied from theMoody Bible radio network. News and sports updates are provided bySRN News.
The stationsigned on the air on July 5, 1956.[6] In its early years, WFST was adaytimer, required to go off the air at night.AM 600 is the frequency on whichCFCF in Montreal was located, Canada's first radio station. So WFST could not interfere with CFCF's signal. In the 1970s, WFST aired acountry music format.
For a short time, WFST had an FMsister station on 97.7MHz. That FM frequency is now part of theChannel X Radio network of stations.[7]
