WEKU (88.9FM) is anon-commercial, listener-supported,publicradio station inRichmond, Kentucky. It is acharter member ofNational Public Radio and it is owned byEastern Kentucky University, broadcasting anews, talk and informationformat.
WEKU is aClass C1 station. It has aneffective radiated power (ERP) of 50,000watts. Thetransmitter is off Igo Road nearInterstate 75.[2] The signal covers northern, central and eastern Kentucky, including nearbyLexington. Programming is also heard on severalsatellite stations andFM translators.
WEKU operates five full-powersatellite stations and fivelow-power FM translator stations.[3] Their combined footprint covers nearly half of the Commonwealth. In December 2024, WEKU added its 10th transmitter, WEKM 88.1 FM serving Maysville, Kentucky.
