WAVT-FM (101.9MHz) is acommercialFMradio station licensed toPottsville, Pennsylvania, and calling itself "T-102." It is owned by Pottsville Broadcasting Company and broadcasts aHot Adult Contemporaryradio format.[2][3] The station also broadcasts local high school sports andPenn State Nittany Lions football. Each weekend it carries "Rick Dees Weekly Top 40," the "Remix Top30 withHollywood Hamilton" and the "Carson Daly Download."
WAVT-FM has aneffective radiated power (ERP) of 29,000watts. Thetransmitter is on Swatara Road inShenandoah Heights.[4]
TheFederal Communications Commission granted Pottsville Broadcasting Company aconstruction permit for a new FM station on December 26, 1946. The company already ownedWPPA1360 AM, so the new station was given the WPPA-FMcall sign.[5] The stationsigned on the air on November 20, 1948; 76 years ago (1948-11-20).
At first itsimulcast WPPA, but by the 1970s, it was broadcasting its ownautomatedeasy listening format. With the change, it switched its call letters to WAVT-FM.
