WAOS (1600kHz "La Mejor") is aSpanish languagecommercial,AM radioradio stationlicensed toAustell, Georgia, and serving theAtlantaradio market. The station airs aRegional Mexicanradio format. Programming is alsosimulcast on1130 AMWLBA inGainesville and on1460 AMWXEM inBuford. The stations are owned by La Favorita, Inc.
WAOS is considered aClass D AM station by theFederal Communications Commission. By day, it is powered at 20,000watts. But to protect other stations onAM 1600, it greatly reduces power at night to 67 watts. It uses anon-directional antenna located on Westside Road in Austell, near C. H. James Parkway (U.S. Route 278).[1]
WLBA is also a Class D station, and is adaytimer. It uses anon-directional antenna powered at 10,000 watts by day, 1,000 watts duringcritical hours but mustsign off the air at night to protect other stations onAM 1130, aclear channel frequency. WLBA'stransmitter is off Gaines Mill Road in Gainesville.[2]
WAOS began broadcasting on April 16, 1968.[3] WLBA firstsigned on the air on January 26, 1957.[4]
