Vlastimir Đorđević (Serbian Cyrillic: Властимир Ђорђевић; born 17 November 1948) is a Serbian formerpolicecolonel general. For his role in theKosovo War, he was found guilty of war crimes againstKosovo Albanians before theICTY.[2]

Life and career

Đorđević was born inKoznica,Vladičin Han,PR Serbia. He graduated from theUniversity of Belgrade Faculty of Law. Đorđević was Assistant Minister of theMinistry of Internal Affairs of Serbia, and Chief of the Public Security Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs from June 1997 to 30 January 2001.[3]

ICTY trial and sentence

He was indicted by theICTY for being part of the 1999 Serb crackdown onKosovo Albanian citizens. As Chief of the Public Security Department, he was responsible for ensuring that all units of the Public Security Department in Serbia for Kosovo carried out their orders. Until 17 June 2007, he was believed to be inRussia. On the morning of 17 June 2007, Đorđević was arrested inMontenegro, near the city ofBudva.[4]

On 23 February 2011, the ICTY ruled Đorđević guilty of all five charges made against him. He was given 27 years' imprisonment.[5] However, the Appeals Chamber of the Hague Tribunal reduced his sentence to 18 years' imprisonment on 27 January 2014. He was transferred to Germany to serve out his sentence.[2]

Ðorđević was released in June 2025.[6]
