Vladimir Lazarev (Russian:Владимир Лазарев; born 5 June 1964 inSaratov,Russian SFSR,Soviet Union) is achessGrandmaster, now living in France.

Biography

After learning to playchess at fifteen, Vladimir Lazarev joined the chess club in his hometown,Saratov and progressed quickly under the direction ofInternational Master Alexander Astashin. He won the title ofInternational Master in 1991 and played many tournaments inRussia, with a prestigious victory in 1993 againstAlexander Morozevich. Lazarev married Latvian born chess playerAnda Šafranska (WGM). The couple moved toFrance inLyon and later toParis. He was awarded theGrandmaster title in 2000. Lazarev has now turned to coaching young chess players inVillepinte, but continues to play a few tournaments.
