Thevisa policy ofNepal allows citizens of most countries to obtain either an Online tourist visa or a visa on arrival while citizens ofIndia are allowedfreedom of movement. However, citizens of certain other countries must obtain avisa from one of theNepalese diplomatic missions.

All visitors must have apassport valid for at least 6 months from the date of arrival and are allowed to stay in Nepal for a maximum of 150 days within 1 calendar year.

Indian citizens do not require a visa to enter Nepal. They may reside in the country permanently as Article 7 of the1950 Indo-Nepal Treaty of Peace and Friendship allows free movement of people between the 2 countries on a reciprocal basis. Indian citizens may use either anIndian passport or aVoter ID card with photo to enter Nepal from India.[1]

Foreign citizens may obtain an visa on arrival which is good for multiple entries and allows visitor to stay for no more than 15, 30 or 90 days.[2] In addition, Foreign citizens may obtain for an visa through kiosks at the airport.

Holders of temporary passports are not eligible unless they have a temporary passport issued by anyEuropean Union member state.[3]

Citizens ofSouth Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) member states (exceptAfghanistan) may obtain a free visa on arrival for 30 days:[5]

Citizens of the following countries and territories may obtain a free visa on arrival if they are travelling as tourists:[6][7]

Non-ordinary passports

Holders of diplomatic or service passports of the following countries may enter Nepal without a visa for up to 30 days (unless otherwise noted):[8][9]

  • A visa exemption agreement for diplomatic and service passport holders was signed withIndonesia in September 2024, but it has yet to be ratified.[11]
  • A visa exemption agreement for diplomatic and official passport holders was signed withSerbia in September 2024, but it has yet to be ratified.[12]

Online Tourist Visa

Foreign citizens may also obtain an online tourist visa to enter Nepal.[13]
