Vincenzo Zappalà (born 1945) is an Italianastronomer and discoverer of severalmain-belt asteroids.
He is credited by theMinor Planet Center with the discovered of 9minor planets.[1] All of his discoveries he made atESO's ChileanLa Silla Observatory in 1984, with the exception of17357 Lucataliano, which he discovered atMount Stromlo Observatory in 1978.[2] He has also been a long-term astronomer at theObservatory of Turin inPino Torinese.[3]
The main-belt asteroid2813 Zappalà, discovered by American astronomerEdward Bowell at the U.S.Anderson Mesa Station in 1981, is named in his honour.[3]
