Vincenzo Alberto Annese (born 22 September 1984) is an Italian professionalfootball manager and formerplayer who is the current Technical Director of theBurkina Faso.
Being born and having started his coaching career inItaly, Annese managed teams inLatvia,Ghana,Palestine,Indonesia,Belize,Kosovo,Nepal andIndia. He won two consecutiveI-League titles withGokulam Kerala.[1]
Annese began his football career as amidfielder forVenezia youth side. He later played for local clubsMartina Franca,Noicattaro andLeonessa Altamura.[citation needed]
After a brief playing career, Annese attended the Higher Institute of Physical Education (ISEF) at theUniversità degli studi di Foggia and theUniversity of Verona, focusing on the adaptation of sports to disabled people.[citation needed]
Annese started his professional coaching career inFidelis Andria youth team in 2010. In 2013, he joinedFoggia as a member of the coaching staff in2012–13 Lega Pro Prima Divisione and2013–14 Lega Pro Prima Divisione. From 2015 to 2016, after working in Latvia and Armenia as head coach, he was appointed in charge ofArmenia's Under-19 and Under-17 teams.[citation needed]
In January 2017, Annese joinedGhanaian Premier League clubBechem United as the head coach for2017 season.[2] Under him the club became 2017Ghana Super Cup runner-up.[3]
On 25 July 2017, Annese joined West Bank Premier League clubAhli Al-Khaleel on a one-year deal as the head coach. He led the club to finals of2016–17 Palestine Cup and 2017West Bank Super Cup.[4]
On 24 March 2018, Annese joinedLiga 1 clubPSIS Semarang as the head coach for2018 season.[5]
On 17 June 2019, Annese signed a one-year contract with theBelize national football team as the head coach.[6]
On 19 August 2020, Annese joinedI-League clubGokulam Kerala.[7] Under him, the club won their maidenI-League title in2020–21 season and qualified for the2022 AFC Cup group stage.[8][9][10][11]
Annese created history in the I-League with the longest unbeaten streak of 21 games.[12] The previous record-holder wasChurchill Brothers, who held it for 17 games (from February 20, 2009 to January 22, 2010). Under him, Gokulam Kerala won the2021–22 I-League title, becoming the first club to win consecutive I-League titles.[1] He received the 2021–22 I-League Best Coach award.[13]
At the 2022 AFC Cup group stage opener, Gokulam Kerala achieved a historic 4–2 win againstIndian Super League clubATK Mohun Bagan.[14]
On June 1, 2022 Annese announced that he won't be continuing with Gokulam Kerala.[15]
On 8 December 2022, Annese joined Indian Super League clubNorthEast United as the new head coach after the club sackedMarco Balbul mid-season.[16]
On 1 March 2023, theAll Nepal Football Association announced him as the country's head coach and won2023 Prime Minister's Three Nations Cup defeatingLaos.[citation needed]
On 25 June 2025, Annese was hired as the new head coach of theAfghanistan national football team.[17]
On 28 October 2025, Annese signed a one-year contract with theBurkina Faso national football team as the Technical Director.[18]
