Vincent Locke (/lɒk/; born 1966) is anAmericancomic book artist known for his work onDeadworld andA History of Violence and for his ultraviolent album covers fordeath metal bandCannibal Corpse.[1][2][3]

Biography

Locke began work in 1986 illustratingDeadworld, azombiehorrorcomic that soon became anunderground hit.[4]

Since then, his illustrative talents in comics have includedThe Sandman,American Freak,Batman,Witchcraft: Le Terreur,The Spectre, andA History of Violence, which was later made intoa movie directed byDavid Cronenberg and starringViggo Mortensen. He has done work for2000 AD, including twoJudge Dredd stories.

Locke has also created extremely violentwatercolor paintings that have been used as album covers by Americandeath metal bandCannibal Corpse. Despite decades of collaboration, the band has stated that they have never met Locke in person.[5]

Locke has also provided illustrations for the "weird erotica" of dark-fantasy authorCaitlín R. Kiernan, providing black and white artwork strongly reminiscent ofAubrey Beardsley's style for her collectionsFrog Toes and Tentacles andTales from the Woeful Platypus, as well as for Kiernan's monthlySirenia Digest. Recent projects have included illustrating the first issue ofPolluto: The Anti-Pop Culture Journal. He is also known for providing art work for RPGs byWhite Wolf Publishing andWizards of the Coast. A press release dated May 6, 2012 announced Locke's graphic novel collaboration with writer Jasmine Lyraka for the Wagnerian opera metal project Lyraka.[6]
