Vierbannen is a hamlet in theDutch province ofNorth Brabant. It is a part of the municipality ofAltena, and lies about 11 km south ofGorinchem.
Vierbannen is not a statistical entity,[2] and the postal authorities have placed it underNieuwendijk.[1] It consists of about 40 houses.[3]
It was first mentioned in 1798 as Vierbanse Sluys, and is a settlement near asluice with the same name. A "banne" was an old name for polder land often also a drainage area.[4]
