Valarie Carolyn Allman (born February 23, 1995) is an Americantrack and field athlete specializing in thediscus throw.[5] She is a two time Olympic champion, having won the gold medal at the2021 Tokyo Olympics and2024 Paris Olympics. Allman won the gold medal at the2025 World Athletics Championships held inTokyo.

She also won bronze at the2022 World Athletics Championships, making her the first American woman to win a world championship medal in the discus throw,[6][7] and later a silver medal at the2023 World Championships. She is theNorth American record holder for the event.

Personal life

Allman was born inChristiana Hospital inNewark, Delaware and raised inHershey, Pennsylvania.[8][1][2] She graduated fromSilver Creek High School inLongmont,Colorado in 2013.[9] She then graduated fromStanford University in 2017 with aB.S. inproduct design.[10]

Career

Allman was a seven-time All-American atStanford University. She went on to represent her country at the2017 Summer Universiade, where she won a silver medal, and the2017 World Championships, where she did not qualify for the final. She was the2018 National Champion.[11] In addition, she won a bronze medal at the2018 Athletics World Cup and silver at the2018 NACAC Championships. Shewon a gold medal at the2021 Summer Olympics. At the2022 World Athletics Championships, she won a bronze medal, which made her the first American woman to win a world championship medal in the discus throw.[6][7] At the2024 Summer Olympics inParis, shewon a gold medal.[12]

Allman's personal best in the discus event is 73.52 m (241 ft2+14 in), set at the Oklahoma Throws Series World Invitational inRamona, OK on April 12, 2025. This was the 6th longest throw in history, extends her American record, and reclaims the North American record.[13]

She now resides inAustin, Texas and trains under Coach Zebulon Sion at theUniversity of Texas, where she is a volunteer assistant. She was sponsored byOiselle through 2020, as well as theNew York Athletic Club. She is currently sponsored byAsics.[14]
