Uyo is thecapital city ofAkwa Ibom, a state inSouth South Nigeria.[3][4]
It became the capital on September 23, 1987 when Akwa Ibom was created from the formerCross River State.[5] According to the 2006 NigerianCensus, thepopulation of Uyo (includingItu) is 427,873,[6] while the greater urban area, includingUruan, has a population of 554,906.[7] The population of Uyo is put at 1,393,000 as at 2024.[8]
Ibibio is the primary indigenous language.[9] The main campus of theUniversity of Uyo is inNwaniba, with satellites on Ikpa Road.[10]
Victor AttahInternational Airport is located in the capital city of Akwa Ibom.[11]
Ibom Air has its head office in Uyo.
Gov Umo Eno is raising the literacy rate of our people through the sustenance of free and compulsory education projects.[12]
There are also many public schools in Uyo, 244 primary schools, 7 secondary schools, 6 special education centres and 5 tertiary institution
With warm, cloudy wet seasons and hot, largely cloudy dry seasons, Uyo has a year-round oppressive environment with temperatures ranging from 69 °F to 87 °F.[13][14][15][16]
