Die Zeit, die Tag und Jahre macht

Happy 2019 -

begin it with music and memories

Thank you for your project help last year, including review of the TFA! --Gerda Arendt (talk)16:51, 1 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Smile and sharing

[edit]

I you have a moment, check outUser:Gerda Arendt/Images 2019 (formerly Christmas), fora smile, and sharing (a Nobel Peace Prize), and resolutions. I wanted that for 1 January, but then wasn't sad about having our music pictured instead. Not too late for resolutions, New Year or not. DYK that he probably kept me on Wikipedia, back in 2012? By the line (which brought him to my attention, and earned the first precious in br'erly style) that I added to my editnotice, in fond memory? - Any specific date when Ludwigsburg should appear as TFA? --Gerda Arendt (talk)16:57, 12 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Looked at "Images of 2019", good stuff - I don't see resolutions, though. Glad to hear that, and no I didn't know about the edit notice. Do you fret that it's been over five years since then? No specific date, but I think one in May would be good. –♠Vami_IV†♠03:41, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Living by the ten rules, kind of a resolution. - Five years or not: I remember it vividly, and will always be grateful. - Why May? I mean, specific reason that needs to be mentioned, or just wait a bit? --Gerda Arendt (talk)12:51, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
"Construction of Ludwigsburg Palace began in May 1704 with the laying of the Alter Hauptbau's cornerstone by Eberhard Louis." I guess 18 May would work, per King Frederick (then Duke)'s wedding to Queen Charlotte. –♠Vami_IV†♠14:35, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

that you might find museums and palaces in Indonesia ashistoric houses - could you please explain why or how they are such?JarrahTree06:26, 29 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Is a palace not a house? –♠Vami_IV†♠06:27, 29 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
museums and palaces (as designated in the Indonesian project at least) are nothing whatsoever anything like a house - believe me! I am not sure how you think they might be...JarrahTree06:32, 29 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
architecture tags, I could handle that, but 'historic house' is way way off the mark, I am sorry to say...JarrahTree06:33, 29 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
"Historic houses" encompasses places of residence ranging from historic houses in the United States to the Palace of Versailles. Residences-turned-museums are also historic houses. –♠Vami_IV†♠06:38, 29 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe but in the Indonesian contexts there is no consistent correlation with that - some palaces are sprawling complexes and in no way anything that resembles a 'house' in the american or european context in any wayJarrahTree06:40, 29 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
some editors love adding the project tagcities to places of maybe 3 people towns as well, because similar telescoping scope statements are made there - the problem is the oldone size fits all notion of some project scope claims - really does not allow for some verydifferent way of looking at things. I personally wouldnever add american based project tags in Asian contexts, too much is lost in he translation - and serious misunderstandings can be and are created. I will not revert your edits, but do I not trust such a tag on the basis of my fieldwork in Asia completely dissallows my even thinking of such a project tag as relevant or apt... cheersJarrahTree06:44, 29 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
OK I have reverted some Indonesian items, as I object to the tag on places that I have had things to do with, and I would also consider the Indian palaces you have tagged as inapropriate as well, but have not touched. Maybe some of the european items are open to question as well, but as I say above - the 'one size fits all' project scopes are probablytoo inclusive in the sense that some structures or complexes simply are somethingother than historic houses. The problem is the exceptions to the rule also make the issue very messy - there are indeed many museums everywhere that may well have been houses in the simplest interpretation - and in a sense you are on the right track with them. I have a problem with blanket tagging - the variations in contexts simply cannot be adequately situated under one project tag where the exceptions might provide a challenge to theofficial scope, it really is not easy to resolve. I understand that.JarrahTree07:00, 29 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks and quick military question

[edit]

Hi Vami IV:

First, thanks for your response about editing E.J. Levy's author's page. I'll answer you there because I have lots of questions still. Thanks in advamce.

Second, I was interested to see your expertise in military matters on Wikipedia. Because of my occupation friends often ask for my help with something they're writing. I'm in the middle of helping a friend write a piece about a Scottish castle, its battlements, and the arrangement of signal beacons on a raised berm within distant eyesight of the castle. He thinks that those beacon and the land mass they are on may be the source of his clan motto. All this would have been before 1000 CE. Is there a specialized way to use Wikipedia to help with such questions of battlement archaeology?

Thanks,Sloane French (talk)12:48, 20 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting topic. One use I can presently think of is using an article, if its barren enough (think Stub or Start classes, or even C-class if its missing a lot of text and/or citations, just basic/short articles) as your research notes. You can very easily find yourself with questions that need answering or gray areas to be filled in. An example in my own work would be my recent expansions onFort Concho. Note the maintenance tags likeTemplate:When?. There are a few tags like that you can use as notes. There is wikicode syntax to make "hidden" messages that will only appear in the source editor, written like so:<!-- Message -->. Now, there's alsouser sandboxes (about page), which is howWikiEdu teaches college students about editing. It's great for practice. Lemme know if I didn't cover any bases you were looking for. –♠Vami_IV†♠14:36, 20 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Notice of Absence

[edit]

This is for friends and acquaintances, plus whoever else might be watching my talkpage. Lately, I have been dialing back my activities on Wikipedia for one of two other considerations in my life, namely a webcomic I am writing and will produce. I had intended more or less to stop cold turkey, but failed. Fortunately, I lost internet at my residence (I typed this from a library), and can move more totally into the other consideration: job searching. I cannot say when I will be back, so I leave this notice so that anyone with an interest in my wellbeing will know why I have vanished. –♠Vami_IV†♠18:49, 11 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I wasn't expecting to be back as soon as I was, but here I am. I don't plan on being very active, but I'm back. –♠Vami_IV†♠01:41, 20 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

When God Writes Your Love Story: The Ultimate Approach to Guy/Girl Relationships is a 1999 book byEric andLeslie Ludy, an American married couple. GAR of Bengal famine of 1943

[edit]

Hello. This is spam, forgive me. I'm gonna go through various GAR pages and look for people who appear active. All I'm asking for is a review, not asking for any specific outcome (i.e., not begging for a KEEP). The GAR isWikipedia:Good article reassessment/Bengal famine of 1943/1. If you review and Delist, that's OK, so long as it gets a meaningful review...

The article is big, detailed and has a terrible history in various Content Review forums. In fact, it has been residing in Content Review Hell for a couple years now... In return for a review (not a specific outcome) I'll do any kinda gnomish or research work you wish. Forex, I love converting inconsistent referencing into{{{sfn}}}, regardless of article size. Your input is both valued and appreciated... I might not jump quickly to make any changes you suggest, because I don't want to be constantly injecting myself into the process. [I've already made one regrettably long post to the GAR page.. It addresses prose size, which I think is an issue of top-level importance in the context of content review]. As time goes on though, the article will be informed by your input... And as I said, call on me if you ever need someone to do yeoman work of various kinds. Thanks! ♦ Lingzhi2 (talk)04:03, 22 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Ucucha's script, mine

[edit]

Hello. This is off-topic from the GAR. [Just FYI on the GAR, as I mentioned earlier, I wanna address your suggestions slowly, one by one, in a nice leisurely walk rather than a furious tattoo of edits. So I am definitely not ignoring you].... But back to Ucucha, have you seen my closely-related script atUser:Lingzhi2/reviewsourcecheck. It also recommends a few other scripts... (I've been meaning to add mention of some of theOhconfucius scripts as well). ♦ Lingzhi2 (talk)08:29, 28 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I have no idea of what Ucuchua's script does beyond display sfnref errors, never bothered to brush up on the details – I'm the kind of guy to just pick up a tool and hammering away rather than examine it. Could you quickly run through the differences/improvements of your script to Ucucha's? –♠Vami_IV†♠09:31, 28 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The scripts are complementary. His is indispensable. Mine does additional things. It flags 16 additional referencing errors or potential errors. ♦ Lingzhi2 (talk)09:40, 28 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Oooh. Sounds good. –♠Vami_IV†♠09:43, 28 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't want to bother you but deleting cite web templates for bare URLs may not be best practice. How do you link to them from elsewhere on page??? ♦ Lingzhi2 (talk)09:59, 28 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
