October music

My story today is about a song a friend gave me, very literally: inventing a melody to a poem, singing and playing guitar.Yesterday's was about a great singer, and you can listen. In case you like Barber better than Mozart, trythis. --Gerda Arendt (talk)18:20, 21 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion declined:User:Cheikh Tourad Traore/sandbox

[edit]

Hello UpTheOctave!. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion ofUser:Cheikh Tourad Traore/sandbox, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: G8 does not apply to user subpages. Thank you.CoconutOctopustalk23:04, 3 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @CoconutOctopus! I usually apply this tag when I see broken redirects in sandboxes and subpages, mainly since I've seen other admins delete these pages under G8 themselves. As such, I assumed these tags would be fine. Now that I re-readWP:G8, I see you're entirely right. In the past I've blanked these pages instead: I'll go back to this method for user subpages. Thank you so much! All the best,UpTheOctave! • 8va?23:13, 3 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
For user subpages there's honestly no need to bother blanking even; a user can have broken redirects if they really want to, it's not causing any harm to the encyclopedia.CoconutOctopustalk23:14, 3 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I can certainly see your point. I know some admins that look through broken redirects on their own, so they may delete/blank them anyway. I think in the past it's been a case of dealing with userpages while I'm dealing with the rest, but in the future I'll leave those to admin judgement and focus mainly on broken redirects in other namespaces. Thanks again for your advice,CoconutOctopus :)UpTheOctave! • 8va?23:40, 3 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary account IP viewer granted

[edit]
The temporary account IP viewer logo, composed of the Wikipedia globe with a user and an IP address

Hello, UpTheOctave!. Per your request, your account has beengrantedtemporary-account-viewer rights. You are now able to reveal the IP addresses of individuals usingtemporary accounts that are not visible to the general public. This is very sensitive information that isonly to be used to aid in anti-abuse workflows. Please take a moment to reviewWikipedia:Temporary account IP viewer for more information on this user right. It is important to remember:

  • You must not share IP address data with someone who does not have the same access permissions unless disclosure is permissible as per guidelines listed atFoundation:Policy:Wikimedia Access to Temporary Account IP Addresses Policy.
  • Accessmust not be used for political control, to apply pressure on editors, or as a threat against another editor in a content dispute. There must be a valid reason to investigate a temporary user. Note that using multiple temporary accounts is not forbidden, so long as they are not used in violation of policies (for example, block or ban evasion).

It is also important to note that the following actions are logged for others to see:

  • When a user accepts the preference that enables or disables IP reveal for their account.
  • Revealing an IP address of a temporary account.
  • Listing the temporary accounts that are associated with one or moreIP addresses (using theCIDR notation format).

Remember, even if a user is violating policy, avoid revealing personal information if possible. Use temporary account usernames rather than disclosing IP addresses directly, or give information such as same network/not same network or similar. If you do not want the user right anymore then please ask me or another administrator and it will be removed for you. You may also voluntarily give up access at any time by visitingSpecial:Preferences. Happy editing!Sohom (talk)11:25, 21 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
