Drew Fortier draft pending publication

[edit]

There's a slight delay sinceDrew Fortier is currently a redirect, but I've filed a request to delete the redirect to free up that space to publish your draft.

That said, since I can't publish directly I can't addWP:Categories to it, soafter it publishes, please add them.

Donot add massive categories like "Music" or "United States", categories should be as narrow as possible, so like "American heavy metal guitarists" and whatnot. If you're not sure, take a look at a related artist who appears to have a decent page, and just copy-paste what they use and then modify them to be applicable to your guy.MatthewVanitas (talk)02:12, 13 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

MatthewVanitas, Thank you so much for your help on this page. I will certainly add correct and narrow categories to the page. This is officially my first published page as an editor. Thank you again.Thatguy1987 (talk)17:51, 13 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:Flipp Brynn Arens.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploadingFile:Flipp Brynn Arens.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim offair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails thefirst non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may haveno free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go tothe file description page and add the text{{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}}below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing<your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. Onthe file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking onthis link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per thenon-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at theMedia copyright questions page. Thank you. --Marchjuly (talk)12:58, 7 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

File:Flipp (Band).jpg

[edit]

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added toCategory:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found atWP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact thebot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them atWikipedia talk:Non-free content.RonBot (talk)17:10, 19 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Zen From Mars logo.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploadingFile:Zen From Mars logo.jpg, which you've attributed to Official logo but claimed as own work.. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under theCC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (seethis list)at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication topermissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letterhere. If you take this step, add{{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email topermissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria atWikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as{{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed atWikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add arationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. SeeWikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created inyour upload log.Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described insection F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia'simage use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at theMedia copyright questions page. Thank you. ♠PMC(talk)17:51, 22 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, thanks for reviewing my drafts.

[edit]

I always like a quick answer, even if it is declined, so thank you. I have another draft I’d like to get your opinion on.Draft:The Playground (2017 film) has been pushed through hoops over the last year or so. I think that it’s good to go, and while I have asked another editor for their opinion and they agree, no one that has previously reviewed it thinks it would surviveWikipedia:Articles for deletion. What are your thoughts here?Filmforme (talk)02:56, 12 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello there, I see you have added additional references to Hacksaw and it's looking really good to me, ping me if you resubmit and I'll have another look. As for The Playground, it is very close to being there. I personally think it might be ready for resubmission but of course if you could find a few more good references, that wouldn't hurt either. It seems Horror has quite a bit of an edge over Drama as far as press due to how large of a niche market Horror is with so many large websites dedicated to the genre and even the independent aspect of the horror genre. Independent Dramas are a bit more tricky to find coverage on but it looks as though The Playground is just about good to go though. I hope all is well!Thatguy1987 (talk)13:44, 14 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your input @Thatguy1987. I have resubmittedDraft:Hacksaw (film) for you to take a look. Much obliged. In the mean time, between my drafts, a German equivalent has been made by someone, even using info from my page and my photo, and that has been accepted. [[1]] if I take them as an example, I see I have used the same sources, only I am using more. Is some of the extra info the reason that it is not yet in order? If that is the case, what should be deleted, please?Again thanks so much for your help. I am really willing to adapt whatever needs to be adapted, if only I would know where to look, that would help so much, thanks a lot.MokumKeez (talk)04:04, 03 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@MokumKeez Hello! I understand your frustrations. German Wikipedia have different standards than the U.S. Wikipedia. As for why your article was declined, Wikipedia relies on significant coverage that is independent from the subject. Interviews and Bandcamp links are not independent of the subject. We look for articles from reliable sources speaking about the topic/band. Have a look atWP:BAND and hopefully it will help. But ultimately, if you can find more articles written about the band to showcase notability, that would be a huge step in the right direction. I hope all is well!Thatguy1987 (talk)21:25, 8 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

decline of Rik L Rik entry

[edit]

Rik L Rik is referenced on many other pages, it is essential that he be given his own page. I wrote everything that is known about him and many authorities, music critics, etc have said so. I have shown them all the material I wrote and they are not agreeing that he should not have his own Wiki Entry. Makes no sense, you have countless entries about people far lesser known in the music business and here is someone that is considered of the very first Los Angels punk rock bands, a historical consideration. At the very least, you should let the entry I wrote be public until more changes can be made to your satisfaction. I have seen hundreds of other entries say they need to be updated, why can't we do that here?Salcanzonieri (talk)22:40, 29 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Salcanzonieri The rule of thumb on Wikipedia is in order for someone to qualify for a Wikipedia article, they need significant coverage in multiple published secondary sources that are reliable, intellectually independent of each other, and independent of the subject.
In your article, the L.A. Times article and the L.A. Weekly article which both read as obituaries, lack the strength of any standard acceptable reliable secondary source independent of the subject.
Discogs, IMDb, and any kind of online store, shop, or database are not considered usable sources to establish notability as they are user generated.
The Forced Exposure link does not showcase any information in regards to your article's subject.
The Joel Guaston source is a blog which are not considered a reliable source on Wikipedia.
The Posh Boy Records website is not considered a usable source as it is not independent of the subject.
The Trouser Press source appears to be a review for your subject's band and that would be more helpful in an article about F-Word instead of your subject.
Apart from that, your article reads more like a press release instead of an encyclopedia entry which is set in a neutral factual tone that cites sources properly.
In closing, this article is going to need a lot of work before being considered.
I would suggest readingWikipedia:Notability (music) andWikipedia:Notability (people) before trying again.

Richard Morton not significant enough

[edit]

I don't know if this is the way to communicate with you about your declining my submission on the musician Richard Mortonhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Richard_Morton_(musician) so apologies if I'm doing it wrong but I asked you for feedback on the comment explaining why it was declined and you haven't responded.

I said: So this comedian who won a Time Out comedy award and is referenced in numerous books, including by the hugely renowned comedian Jo Brand, and you are saying that means he's not significant enough?Almost all the other winners of the Time Out comedy award (which was a significant award) have a listing. His music partner Reg Meuross who has no citations, has a listing. He had years of routines at the Edinburgh Festival, marked out by reviewers. His videos posted by fans are on YouTube. He is one of the founders of one of the most famous comedy clubs during the 'Alternative Comedy' boom of the 80s in the UK, has had huge runs on British quiz shows on both TV and radio, has two albums which were positively reviewed and continues to tour to this day. What more does he have to do to prove he is 'significant' enough for Wikipedia?I'd genuinely appreciate your advice because I've been trying to get this page live for nearly a year.

I realise I have not cited the book by comedian Jo Brand - Can't stand up for sitting down - where she references her tour with Richard, his stint in the TV show Our Friends in the North and one of his famous songs My Daddy Was A Sperm Bank.If I add these citations will this make him significant?

She says: I toured for a while with Richard Morton, who was always great to be with. Richard is such a lovable guy so helpful, friendly and sweet natured. He almost makes me feel guilty for existing. He’s a Geordie, but an atypical one given that he is small and slim and unmacho. He was unerringly cheerful when we toured and believe you me unerringly cheerful isn’t the default position of most comedians. Richard did stand up and comedy songs and can be spotted in the background in a club in that wonderful series, Our Friends in the North. He also happens to have the same name as an opera singer and was booked to do a gig at the Sherman Theatre near Cardiff once. However the audience were expecting the opera singer and when Richard kicked off with My daddy was a sperm bank, he came on my account, almost the entire audience got up and left.

He has a section amounting to more than 20 pages in the book Ha Bloody Ha about the comedians on the Alternative Comedy scene of the 80s. I would posit this is more than a 'passing reference'.

This is my first submission to Wikipedia so if you can explain how I get this decision reconsidered, I'd be very grateful.Thanks.MsContent (talk)11:04, 31 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Thatguy1987https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Thatguy1987
I invite you to respond to my query as above.
Thank you.MsContent (talk)12:11, 13 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@MsContent The rule of thumb on Wikipedia is in order for someone to qualify for a Wikipedia article, they need significant coverage in multiple published secondary sources that are reliable, intellectually independent of each other, and independent of the subject.
Each statement in the article needs said reliable source to back it up.
For instance this statement: "He is best known as a 1992 winner of theTime Out Comedy Award, one half of musical act The Panic Brothers and for The Jack Dee Show (ITV) and The Comedy Store TV series on Channel 5." This does not cite a reliable source therefore cannot be verified.
There are quite a few statements like this throughout the article.
As for your sources:
The Ealing Times article is an interview and those are not considered proper coverage to establish notability because it isn't independent of the subject.
Discogs is not a reliable source because it is user generated.
The BBC Radio 4 links, again these are interviews or information coming straight from your subject and is not coverage independent of the subject.
One of your sources is a show flyer which establishes that a band he was in performed. This does not establish notability for your subject apart from the fact that he may have been there.
The Time Out album review didn't link to anything in relation to your subject.
The Music Week album review didn't link to anything in relation to your subject.
I could keep going but I am going to stop here.
You have not shown enough significant coverage from reliable sources independent of the subject which is why your article was not accepted.
Please readWikipedia: Notability (people) and for further assistance please consultWikipedia: Teahouse.Thatguy1987 (talk)17:05, 17 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

AfC declines

[edit]

Hi there, I see you declinedDraft:Naresh Bhuiyan as promo. But I'm not really sure what's so promo in this draft that it needs to be declined, so I'm going to resubmit it for review. In any case, when you decline a draft for a non-notability reason, if the subjectalso does not appear to pass for notability reasons, can you please be sure to add a notability decline as well? We don't want submitters to feel duped when they spend a bunch of time trying to clean up the language only for it to get declined the next time for a totally different reason. Thanks! And thanks for helping out at AfC. --asilvering (talk)15:45, 4 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
