Thanks for makingLineage B.1.617. This article got about 200k pageviews in the past 30 days, which is extraordinary for a word and concept which practically no one would call by its name. I suppose I could post on the talk page there, but since you have insight, are you aware of a common name for this concept considering that it is now part of common conversation? Is it the "Indian variant" or similar? Blue Rasberry(talk)13:54, 25 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Can we create a page for Pango Lineage B.1.617?

[edit]

Hi SpookiePuppy, I am not too good at how to start a new article. I wanted to know if you think we should have a base article called "Pango Lineage B.1.617" that speaks about all three currently know sub-variants?

@Liquefier: Thanks for the suggestion. I suppose this is partially a question about the remaining material which needs splitting off from the original Lineage B.1.617 article. As you will know, the main lineage (B.1.617) and variants/sublineages are in a state of flux to say the least. So I don't see any reason why we can't have a general page about the main lineage and your proposed title: "Pango Lineage B.1.617" would be a good way to distinguish it. I would take this opportunity to create the article yourself, an editor has to start somewhere. One way to start it is to locate your own user sandbox (ensure you are logged in). Then in the top address which should look something like "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User" followed by your "username/sandbox" add a forward slash "/" and type your proposed title for the page. As a general rule, article titles should be in "sentence case", not title case, so only the first word would be capitalised, unless it's a proper names.WP:NCCAPS So the second word would not be capitalised and your proposed title would therefore be "Pango lineage B.1.617". However, I am sure you already know that "PANGO" is short for "PANGOLIN" (Phylogenetic Assignment of Named Global Outbreak Lineages). So perhaps the "PANGO" should be in capital letters? So the final result would be "PANGO lineage B.1.617". But also check out: "Acronyms_in_page_titles"[1]. Going back to you sandbox, when you enter the full HTML line in your browser, Wikipedia should ask you whether you want to create that page. But there are other ways. You could start a new draft article in the draft spaceWP:DRAFT. Draft articles have "Draft:" (without the quotes) before the article title. The full address you would input to create your draft would look something like:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:PANGO_lineage_B.1.617 The advantage of creating a draft like this is that you could invite other editors to help out and keep a watchful eye on it. I hope this helps. I would urge you to take the plunge and create the draft and start working on it. Hopefully people will come to help, as there is a need for pages which help disentangle the parent lineage from the evolving sublineages. Feel free to reply here on my talk page with any further questions.SpookiePuppy (talk)00:41, 12 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'mTJRC. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article,List of classical music competitions, but you didn't provide areliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like toinclude a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look atreferencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message onmy talk page. Thank you.TJRC (talk)20:42, 13 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@TJRC: You were right to revert my additions. I was getting a bit lazy there, and relying on the blue link too much. I have been trying to find a suitable reference for the Malta International Composition Competition but keep hitting the same brick wall - the problem seems to be that the competition probably now has a different name, or that the name has evolved. It seems that the competition name may have changed along with the focus of the composition rubric, for example, the "Malta International String Orchestra Composition Competition", or the "Malta International Music Competition" (with a composition category), and more recently, "Malta International Composition Competition for String Quartet 2021". I believe these are all the same fundamental competition, but it's very confusing and very difficult to source especially with the competition name as it is currently worded. I appreciate you thanking me for my edit when I re-added the Masterprize competition with the 2 references. I will try and help out with adding reliable sources to the list.SpookiePuppy (talk)22:56, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

National Public Health Centre

Hi - I'm currently writing a German article for the DE Wiki based on your English article. I've noticed on thewebsite that the authorities seem to have merged... There's a big disclaimer right away. But the qestion is now - IF it need a new articleNational Center for Public Health and Pharmacy or is it enougth to update the old one?!? For me looks like thathungary have updated this article and the WikidataObjektQ23892527. But for me it looks more that it need his own DataObjekt.. How did you see it?!Calle Cool (talk)07:23, 7 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, thanks for your message. I am pleased that you will be drafting a German language article for this public health body in Hungary. The name-change of the equivalent page in Hungarian to "Nemzeti Népegészségügyi és Gyógyszerészeti Központ" does present a minor dilemma. It seems to be this word "Gyógyszerészeti", that expands the description. This has also caused a change to the acronym being used from "NNK" to "NNGYK". The fact that the Wikidata object names have been amended suggests to me that the way forward is for editors to try and keep things unified, as much as possible. This would require a renaming of the English article, (this would be achieved via a page move) fromNational Public Health Centre toNational Centre for Public Health and Pharmacy. A page move is normally proposed on the talk page of the article to be moved and given a period of time, I think 7 days for other editors to respond. Such a page move would probably be "uncontroversial" so I could just make the move and see what happens. The English page has only ever had a single editor-author, so this might help. I just checked the history for the Hungarian language page and the article was moved on 5th December. I would feel free to go ahead with drafting the German language article using the new updated name that includes the word "Pharmacy", so presumably something like: "Zentrum für Gesundheitswesen und Pharmazie"? I will try to move the English page to "National Centre for Public Health and Pharmacy" and then start amending the body of the article to update it. I hope this helps.SpookiePuppy (talk)21:58, 7 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

List of 21st-century classical composers Edit

[edit]

Good evening. I am writing this message to you regarding theedit I made yesterday to the "List of 21st-century classical composers". The composer I added to the List (Elliott Wells) is a certified composer with a compulsoryOpus number, and I believe, though he may be only young, that he has the correct and appropriate requirements to be a part of the List here on Wikipedia. This is not a joke, nor an attempt to 'get famous' on this website. It is simply a reminder that thereare composers out there who do have experience, and written works for traditional classical music, and they should be noted. Classical music is something that is unfortunately slowly fading away, and I think it should be still celebrated today in all ways.

Could you explain further why you suppose that he should not be entered onto the list? Thank you for your time.81.98.252.208 (talk)17:15, 28 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

To add composer names to that list (List of 21st-century classical composers), they need to have an article, which would then give a blue-link name rather than red. The only red-link names in that list appear to be ones that have an article in a different language where an inter-language link is provided. I undid your edit because you added a name that does not have a current Wikipedia article.
You have asked me to explain further why the name should not be entered onto the list. The main reason is the lack of a Wikipedia article, but this can be broken down into several more detailed reasons. Wikipedia has established and accepted principles that help determine whether a dedicated Wikipedia article should be created. In the case of a living composer,WP:COMPOSER they have to be considered sufficiently "notable" for a page to be justified. If a page were to be created, it would need plenty of reliable references which point to independent sources, such as books, newspapers, reviews, music journals, academic dissertations by people independent of the composer. As they are also a living person, any potential Wikipedia article would need to adhere toWP:BOLP which concerns the biographies of living people. There was also something called "SIGCOV" which originally stood for "significant coverage", or rather the need to demonstrate it. I am not sure if this is still a consideration, but I would say that it should be, in that there should be independent evidence of radio airplay, concerts, etc. that are not just a passing one-off, but proper coverage, repeat broadcasts, reviews that are specific to the composer and their named work.
I have conducted a reasonably thorough search of Google (including "News" and Google "Books"), as well as the Wikipedia Library (with specific attention to the ProQuest archives) for the composer Elliott Wells and I was unable to find any sources at all. I hope this helps explain the reasoning behind when and whether a composer should have their own page. Are you aware of any reliable, independent sources?SpookiePuppy (talk)02:55, 29 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I now see that there is no article for Elliott Wells. I am aware of the Wikipedia rules and guidelines of adding living people to lists, but I do not know exactly what sources there are for his work online. I have found aYou Tube link to a channel which has his exact work, this would be my only guess. Where the recordings or performances had taken place I am not sure of, but the music does match to his own. This is the only source I have found so far, but, if I can contact him directly in some way I could perhaps tell him about the idea of making something new to share his sources and performances.
I attended a performance of his organ music previously at a local church recently, but I found nothing online about this unfortunately.81.98.252.208 (talk)17:13, 29 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
