Userfy Request

[edit]

Hello! Sorry for writing this so late but I would like to userfy the following templates fromthese deleted templates:Template:COVID-19 pandemic data/United States daily deaths in 2020,Template:COVID-19 pandemic data/United States daily deaths in 2021,Template:COVID-19 pandemic data/United States daily deaths in 2022, andTemplate:COVID-19 pandemic data/United States daily deaths as I still need to reference these data sometimes. Thank you very much!Horizon Sunset (talk)09:32, 1 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Out of curiosity, what sorts of things are you needing these as reference for? You might not need the entire template if it's just a subset of information you want.Primefac (talk)16:12, 1 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I am monitoringa data template on Wikimedia about COVID deaths post-emergency (which was moved there from Wikipedia after the template was deleted here and still being updated daily). Some of the states had irregular reporting in the past that might affect their figures today. Oklahoma, for example, reported roughly 1000 fewer fatalities than what was recorded in Wikipedia as of May 2023 and I need to know the reasons for this discrepancy (e.g. mis-recording of data, the inclusion of probable deaths, etc.) through referencing past data, the edit summary, or the editor to know how to further update the template when Oklahoma resumed reporting in a different way (and this is just one example, there are many more states like this). I definitely would not need the entire template but I don't know what part of the template exactly I would need. It would be nice if the templates could be userfied or temporarily undeleted (for a day or two for edit history) for my reference. --Horizon Sunset (talk)18:30, 1 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

User:PrimeBOT request

[edit]

Howdy! Hope you are well. Was wondering if you might be able to help out with a parameter clean up task?{{Infobox sportsperson}} removed support for{{{residence}}} and there are some 1,913 pages still using the parameter. Would be lovely if you could work your magic on it! If you need any more info or if I can help in any way, let me know! Thanks in advance. —Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing)07:37, 5 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Sure. I do note that there are ~700 other pages in that cat, do you think you could find some other common problematic parameters? I'd rather hit them (especially if they're doubled with residence) to avoid needing more edits than necessary (and to help clean up the cat).Primefac (talk)21:51, 5 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
If you could replace|career= with|years_active=,|ethnicity= with|nationality=,|nicknames= with|nickname= and remove|show-updates= that would be awesome! -Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing)00:03, 6 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good, I'll try to get to it this weekend.Primefac (talk)01:20, 6 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think there is consensus to move ethnicity values to nationality. Those are two very different things.|ethnicity= should be removed. –Jonesey95 (talk)01:43, 6 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Jonesey95 thanks! I did a cursory glance at a half dozen pages and they appeared to all have values in ethnicity that could easily be moved to nationality but if there is not consensus I’m fine to just remove them. —Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing)04:10, 6 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It should probably not be done by a bot. –Jonesey95 (talk)05:33, 6 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good! Let’s skip that one then. —Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing)05:34, 6 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Knocked out the ones I could, plus a few easy fixes like|Sport=|sport=. Might still be some residence params hiding amongst the others but I didn't want to run through and remove them just so that someone else could go through and remove the other pad param(s).Primefac (talk)

Exodus

[edit]

Hi! I've seen you declined the move ofExodus (Archetype Entertainment game), but the proper naming convention in the guideline atWP:NCVGDAB says it should have beenExodus (upcoming video game). Like the guideline says: "Use "video game" rather than videogame, game" and "For further disambiguation, use "(YEAR video game)". "If no year has been announced, use (upcoming video game)."Jovanmilic97 (talk)08:42, 8 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

WhatLinksHereSnippets.js

[edit]

Hello, I noticed thatWhatLinksHereSnippets.js, listed atWP:TFD/H, has been broken for a long time. I tried using it a few months ago, but it was not working, so I uninstalled it. Seeing it again, I decided to fix it. The updated version is atSpecial:Permalink/1310268111. Since you were one of its users, you are welcome to host it in your userspace by copying it. It should work correctly for most cases, but if any pages are missed, check the console log for error and adjust the regex to cover the missing variations. –DreamRimmer17:01, 8 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Another task for PrimeBOT

[edit]

Howdy again. I’m getting ready to do a major overhaul of{{Infobox newspaper}} to conform toMOS:INFOBOXNAME. I would love to get you to run a PrimeBOT once I’m done to clean it up. What is the best way to give you the list of params to replace? I’m happy to provide them in code form so you can literally just copy and paste if that would help. Otherwise would a table be best? A list? What would make your life easiest. Thanks in advance.Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing)04:57, 9 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

WP:SOFIXIT

[edit]

Hi - I see that in 2017 you nominated the above redirect for deletion - I came across this because I was considering doing it for much the same reason that you did. Even if it is used "politely", it's hard for me to get past the phrasing. I feel like as a site we've moved beyond this kind of terminology. Can I ask what your current thoughts are?Tduk (talk)00:01, 19 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

GOFORIT! As far as my actual opinion goes, I don't think I've really seen it used all that much in the last few years, so my concerns about it beingmisused are probably no longer as valid, but if you have a reasonable rationale I won't fault you for thinking it should be nuked.Primefac (talk)00:12, 19 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I was unaware of that alternative which puts a much more positive spin on it, thanks!Tduk (talk)00:15, 19 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately if it _is_ deleted, that leaves a lot of redlinks, doesn't it? Is there a way we can just discourage its use? or have it redirect somewhere that has historical value but can't be used when, say, handling new editors?Tduk (talk)00:16, 19 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I did have that thought (i.e. its past use almost prevents its deletion) but other than just marking it as deprecated I'm not sure what would be doable for that other than just making sure that users who misuse it get a nice note about not doing that.Primefac (talk)00:29, 19 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
You think it should be nuked,SOFIXIT... :P
Sorry, couldn't resist a little humor with its phrasing within this context (No tone or attitude towards you is intended). I agree that is a bit less friendly in tone than some of the other redirects for BEBOLD suggestions in the typical used situations. I'm supportive of removing 'SOFIXIT' from our Wikipedia lexicon and replacing with GOFORIT or BEBOLD. When I've run across SOFIXIT in passing, I've wondered why we had that when others were nicer.
Looks to be6509 usages of the SOFIXIT phrasing (many likely have different display text). I'd suspect a bot (or possiblyAWB, though this is likely more pages than AWB would love) could easily update those to one of the other options and then this redirect deleted. This sort of thing is in line with other bot requests I've seen, and these appear to primarily be on article talk pages from the sampling I looked at.
Best wishes,(talk page stalker)Zinnober9 (talk)00:49, 19 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I think another solution would be to have SOFIXIT be an essay on how we don't encourage biting the newbies, or something like that. Anyway thanks for the (not my) talk page stalking, I'll have to think about what I might do..Tduk (talk)03:07, 19 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hey… It’s me again.. Gots another task for your awesomePrimeBOT. Cleaning upCategory:Pages using infobox restaurant with deprecated parameters (0). Follow-up on Edit COI template and COI requests category

[edit]

Hi Primefac, in May webriefly discussed my suggestion of updatingTemplate:Edit COI and its output atCategory:Wikipedia conflict of interest edit requests to provide more options and context for reviewing editors. I alsoreached out to Anomie around the same time, since AnomieBOT is critical to its operation.

Since then, I've been collaborating withUser:Bawolff to create a working version of the idea in his userspace. See here:

We brought the issue to bothWikipedia talk:WikiProject Edit requests and posted a TPER request atTemplate talk:Edit COI, where it received support and no opposition. After Bawolff made a couple of adjustments last week, one of the most active volunteer editors responding to edit requestssaid: "[B]ig thumbs up from me! Thank you to everyone involved for making these changes!"

But it's not quite live yet. My understanding is first someone—most likely you—will need to update the template, and thenAnomie has indicated they will update the bot. Are you up for making the template change? If you're able to do so, I will then notify Anomie. Thanks,WWB Too (Talk ·COI)21:10, 25 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again, just following up on my note from last week. If you're not able to take it on, I'll ask another template editor in the next few days. But if you'd like to handle it, I'll hold off. Thanks!WWB Too (Talk ·COI)20:18, 2 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

INVOLVED exception

[edit]

Hi Primefac, some recent conversations about a different topic reminded me that I had wanted to ask you for a while about your actionshere, where you removed as "blp violations" a large amount of text that cited various reliable sources (New York Times, Washington Post, USA Today, San Francisco Chronicle) - and then immediately afterwards used your admin powers toprotect the article in your version. I of course assume that you are familiar withWP:INVOLVED. So the only way I can make sense of this is that you were relying on the INVOLVED exception forstraightforward cases (e.g.,blatant vandalism) whereany reasonable administrator would have probably come to the same conclusion. Do you still stand by your administrative assessment that everything you removed in that edit was a blatant BLP violation? It seems that most of the information was added back afterwards by other editors and remains in the article'scurrent stable version.

PS, to clarify just in case: I have never edited that article so far (in particular, I haven't been small-i involved in the aforementioned content dispute), although I may so in the future.

Regards,HaeB (talk)06:25, 8 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

That... that is not in any way an involved action; the revert was my first ever edit to the page, the protection my second, both of which were in response to a request for administrative action to be taken. Was every word I removed a BLP violation? Probably not, but if you want to quote ALLCAPS at me I'll just point toWP:WRONGVERSION.Primefac (talk)08:40, 8 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Arbitration

  • Aftera motion, arbitration enforcement page protections no longer need to be logged in the AELOG. A bot now automatically posts protections atWP:AELOG/P. To facilitate this bot, protection summaries must include a link to the relevant CT page (e.g.[[WP:CT/BLP]]), and you will receive talk page reminders if you forget to specify the contentious topic but otherwise indicate it is an AE action.

Oversight

[edit]

Hello! I noticed you were the one to respond to my oversight email and I have a quick question. It took a bit for the edit diff to be removed, and for more serious diffs such as one with an SSN (which I have seen happen), I'd think that these diffs would need to be removed ASAP (correct me if I am wrong). If so, how would you go about contacting an oversight member on Wikipedia in a more urgent manner? (like using the ygm template or something)LuniZunie ツ(talk)21:20, 15 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

An email to the OS team is almost always the fastest way to get hold of someone, though there are sometimes gaps in our coverage (mostly overnight in the Western Hemisphere). Regardless of how quickly we respond, if it's something like a phone number or social security number, by all means remove it in the meantime (using a neutral edit summary!) so that it is not on the live page. There is also the option to join the -revdel channel in IRC (seeWikipedia:IRC#Channels_for_specific_tasks) which may be quicker but depends on who is online and available (much like the email system).Primefac (talk)22:26, 15 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

New task & question

[edit]

So I found a new task forPrimeBOT.Category:Pages using infobox musical artist with associated acts (59,846). Also a question for you, what sort of a regex do you use for removing a parameter when you are runningWP:AWB, if you are willing to share you secrets... I usually use^\s*\|\s*PARAM_NAME\s*=.*$\n, but that only works when there value for the param is on one line... If it is an instance of{{plainlist}} for example, I get into trouble... Would love any advice!Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing)09:22, 22 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

First, that is not a good task for the bot, because it requires determining which of multiple parameters to replace the|associated_acts= with. Second, I use modules if I want to remove a parameter (see e.g.this code) which calls WikiFunctions.Tools.RemoveTemplateParameter.Primefac (talk)09:25, 23 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Gotcha. Thanks!! --Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing)09:30, 23 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

PrimeBOT request

[edit]

Hi Primefac! Hope you're doing well. I noticed that recentlyZackmann08 overhauled{{Infobox golfer}}, and included {{#invoke:Check for unknown parameters}} in doing so. As a result, there are roughly 2,300 pages inCategory:Pages using infobox golfer with unknown parameters with the|residence= parameter that could use to be removed. This is a bit much for me to do with a manual AWB run, would you be able to take care of that with a PrimeBOT run, please?Phuzion (talk)20:01, 23 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

On hold I would recommend AGAINST doing this at this time. I removed|residence= from{{Infobox tennis biography}} and there was an explosion from a few tennis editors.See this RFC that resulted. Before that information is removed from 2,300+ articles, let's wait a few weeks to make sure no one objects.Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing)20:05, 23 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
