Regarding MS NOW

[edit]

HiNathan Obral, I wanted to follow upregarding the edit you made in theMS NOW article. I understand your point aboutWP:COMMONNAME, MS NOW isindeed the network’s current official/commonly used name.

However, perMOS:1STOCC, itrecommends "introduce it using the full expression, and the abbreviation in parentheses", even if the acronym itself is the brand. In this case, reliable sources verify that MS NOW is a backronym for “My Source for News, Opinion, and the World.”

Forconsistency with other Wikipedia articles about networks and organizations such asCNBC,NASA,CNN,NBC,CBS, etc. the full expansion is included alongside the acronym in the lead.

The change you madedoes not appear necessary, as the previous revisioneffectively satisfies bothMOS:1STOCC andWP:COMMONNAME whilemaintaining clarity for readers.Samueldester1234 (talk)15:51, 16 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

That would only be appropriate if the channel name actuallywas "My Source for News, Opinion and the World" (see CNBC, which actuallyis the "Consumer News and Business Channel" and was literally named that from day one), but it is not. It is a forced marketing slogan that multiple reliable sources have agreed on was only concocted to explain the name change. Since when do we introduce ledes with a marketing slogan and not the actual common name?Nathan Obral • he/him/🦝 •tc17:04, 16 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I would argue its not considered a forced marketing slogan, while it might appear so to justify the “MS NOW” name. In my opinion, I think the previous revision still satisfies it because whether you agree or not, My Source for News, Opinion, and the World is still considered a acronym, so much so that multiple news articles refers/acknowledge it as the network’s acronym.Samueldester1234 (talk)17:33, 16 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
