I have a question on how can I get my translation published as official articles in Wikipedia. I have currently two 'privately' published Finnish translation on topics:
@Obversa: Happy new year, and sorry for the late reply: the reduction in disruptive editing and vandalism is the consequence of the page being semi-protected. Lookinig at the whole page history I do not think a reduction of protection will be helpful.Lectonar (talk)09:56, 3 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I’m trying to make a page for my client he’s currently a free agent but has played for football clubs like derby county Mansfield town Blackpool and so on. He’s flying out to saudi soon and I need a page setting up about his career. Would you be able to help me as this is the first time doing this.
@Usee72844: My advice to new editors is to not even think about trying to create an article until you have spent several weeks - at least - learning about how Wikipedia works by making improvements to existing articles. Once you have understood core policies such asverifiability, neutral point of view, reliable, independent sources, andnotability, and experienced how we handle disagreements with other editors (theBold, Revert, Discuss cycle), then you might be ready to readyour first article carefully, and try creating a draft. Add to that that you have aconflict of interest (which needs to be declared, btw), and it becomes very very difficult. Just read all the links I have provided, and if you have more questions feel free to ask again. Cheers.Lectonar (talk)08:45, 6 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hello I wanted to verify the boycotts in this page in the political views section and have found a few sources where they have went against their words stated here I feel it's fairly important if we put in that they went against what they said i tried bringing it up in the talk page but have yet to get any response I have linked sources in the talk page but it seems largely ignored I would try to make the changes myself but I am unsure how any help would be great thanks --Redpandaisonfire (talk)15:13, 13 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there, I saw your reply on page protection forChai Keong Toh. How many incidents should we tolerate before asking for page protection? Based on the last few incidents, it seems that the attackers are using only raw IP addresses to create defamation on the subject, which is uncivil and improper for Wikipedia. There are also no reliable sources provided. I am thinking a protection against edits by raw IP addresses would help, as the attackers always use raw IP addresses (usually from a Mobile Phone, doing mobile edits).CanadaMaple123 (talk)16:07, 14 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Alternatively, the attacker should be warned not to defame the subject without evidence. Wikipedia is not the place for a person to revenge or get back at another person for his or her personal reasons. Such action is a definite no. Wikipedia has policies on being civil and provide reliable sources to statements made. Also, such defamation acts can result in legal consequences.CanadaMaple123 (talk)20:50, 15 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
literally 90% of the info i added was from the source. Some words even have alternate meanings. I dont really know why it got reverted, but then again even illiterate 12 yr olds can run wiki. Adding information that is actually realistic is a crime, got it.Rayan241 (talk)13:41, 20 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Rayan241: Maybe, but the source is not one we would consider areliable source; I also see the mention you make as an undue one. To be blunt, I consider your addition(s) to be blatant spam. Btw,personal attacks, even when clumsily veiled, aren't conducive to a collaborative environment.Lectonar (talk)15:39, 20 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Lectonar. I went toUser talk:Wowh665 intending to block them per NOTHERE, but since you had warned and mentioned "yournext disruptive edit", I deferred to you. (I'm a little frustrated, though. Not that it'll make much practical difference; creating those socks is cheap.)Bishonen |tålk14:26, 6 March 2025 (UTC).[reply]
Sorry, I saw this after I blocked, or I wouldn't have. It didn't occur to me that this might be stepping on your toes, Lectonar; I apologize for any annoyance I caused. I guess my thought process is that second chances are for new editors, not returning trolls avoiding scrutiny. But I do know the mild annoyance of another admin substituting their judgment for mine; didn't mean to be insulting.Floquenbeam (talk)14:41, 6 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hello! Is it possible for you to review the draft in my sandbox before I resubmit it? The reason for the decline in October of 2024 was that the draft: DiverseWorks needed multiple published sources that were: in-depth, reliable, secondary, and independent of the subject. Do you have any suggestions for improvement? Thank you! --Eva at DiverseWorks (talk)17:13, 18 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Eva at DiverseWorks: Hello, I am not an expert at vetting articles, as I do not work in AfC... but as you talked about sourcing,WP:42 will be helpful in determining what is needed. Concerning your draft: while I am sure you do great work, I do not really see thatnotability as Wikipedia defines it has been established, especially thesignificant coverage part of it. On the positive side, your draft has not been rejected, but declined. I just would resubmit the draft as it is, and you will be guided forward slowly.Lectonar (talk)08:08, 19 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The page has been repeatedly vandalized even after semi-protection. A user has removed well-cited and properly sourced information, seemingly due to sectarian bias. Additionally, repeated edits from users opposing the cited content indicate a pattern of disruptive editing. Extended protection is needed to maintain the integrity of the article.5.195.112.170 (talk)12:34, 29 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Lectonar, Is it permissible for a user or a user befriended with the user to remove a vandalism warning from their discussion page? - Gisbert ツ (talk) Illustrate Wikipedia !20:13, 3 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Good morning: for the user themselves: yes, because they are supposed to have seen the warning. For the friend: it depends on some factors, mainly if the warning was warranted or not. E.g.: incorrect use of user warning templates, even if well-intended, should be identified to the mistaken user. The {uw-tempabuse} series of user warning templates may be used, but a detailed talk page message would better. This whole thing can obviously be done by a friend, which would include removal of the warning. Cheers and happy editing.Lectonar (talk)06:39, 4 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

To make a difference, you only need to make one or two small corrections. You do not need to work on the entire article. You also don't need to have any special knowledge about the topic. --Great7890 (talk)02:08, 26 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi@Sryv:. Wikioedia still confuses me, and I have been editing here for more than 20 years now. As to your question: yes, you can edit any page (with very few exceptions: pages that are protected...but these make up far under 1% overall). A good place to start off would be theWikipedia:The Wikipedia Adventure. It lets you get around a bit, and see some spots hereabouts.Lectonar (talk)07:25, 6 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps you mistake Wikipedia for something like a directory; a Wikipedia article about a company must summarize what independentreliable sources with significant coverage have chosen on their own to say about the company(not based on materials from the company or routine activities) showing how it meets the special Wikipedia definition ofa notable company. Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising.Lectonar (talk)06:54, 24 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sure that you're already aware of this, but this page was being hit bythis LTA user. In these situations, it's almost better tonot protect the page rather than protect it, and for a number of reasons: By protecting the article they're currently targeting, it just results in them simply moving their shenanigans to another article untilthat one gets protected, which they respond by moving on toanother article, and so on... Eventually, they'll start targeting a number of articles simultaneously instead of just one, or a larger number of articles rather than just a few. As much as I don't like saying this, there are times where it's better to keep the flood of disruption to one location rather than across many. We're effectively still playing "cat-and-mouse", but now we're putting more work on ourselves by needing to keep our eyes peeled for the next article they start attacking. Just wanted to share my food for thought. I hope you're having a great day and that life is treating you well. I'm available should you have any questions or concerns. Best -~Oshwah~(talk)(contribs)10:54, 19 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Oshwah: Thanks for the heads-up, but one needs to keep in mind the effect of disruptive editing on readers/users too. If I get multiple requests for protection for the same page by different users, and the disruption is on the bigger side (including taunting) I will protect. I think in this case the gain you have by being able to keep an eye on them is outweighed by the overall effect on ourclientele. I am not one to protect lightly, anyway. Cheers and happy editing.Lectonar (talk)07:00, 20 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I'm brand new to Wikipedia editing so excuse me if my question is silly. I'm interested in improving Wikipedia both in English and in Finnish. Is there a way to get suggestions of articles that need improvement both in English and in Finnish? If that is not the case at this stage, I can make edits only in English as well.
I checked the preferences and in the "Internationalisation" section there is a warning "Selecting a language other than 'en - English' will prevent you from seeing localized parts of the interface on the English Wikipedia, and you may see inaccurate external translations." Is there a way to have multiple languages as preferences?
@VellamoVedenEmäntä: As far as I know there is no way to get suggestions for articles in both Wikipedias at the same time; this might be due to the fact that each Wikipedia has their own rules and regulations concerning article content and sourcing. English language Wikipedia is very strict in that aspect, but I couldn't talk about the Finnish language Wikipedia. What we do have are overlaps to other languages, e.g. would be articles found atpages needing translations. More info is provided atHelp:Translation. As to your question about the preferences: I have no idea, tbh, as I never tried it. Perhaps editors at ourteahouse will know more. I also have left a Welcome at your talk-page, to get you started.Lectonar (talk)09:23, 30 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

As a newly registered user with an interest in contributing, one idea I have is to add a short biolographer of the distinguished American geneticist, William B Wood, recently deceased. However, wikipedia already has a biography in German. I assume there is a standard protocol for translating (I have some knowledge and a family member is a native speaker). Or I do it on my own. If the latter, should I cite the German version as a source.
(Note: I plan to follow the stepwise suggestions of easy to medium to learn the technically of editing) but would like an overview of the process of writing an acceptable article. This particular idea is not important, In fact I hope someone else writes up Bill Wood in Wikipedia before I can get to it.) --Stevewhoo (talk)15:20, 16 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Lectonar. This message is being sent to remind you of significant upcoming changes regarding logged-out editing.
Starting 4 November, logged-out editors will no longer have their IP address publicly displayed. Instead, they will have atemporary account (TA) associated with their edits. Users with some extended rights like administrators and CheckUsers, as well as users with thetemporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right will still be able to reveal temporary users' IP addresses and all contributions made by temporary accounts from a specific IP address or range.
How do temporary accounts work?
Editing from a temporary account
When a logged-out user completes an edit or a logged action for the first time, a cookie will be set in this user's browser and a temporary account tied with this cookie will be automatically created for them. This account's name will follow the pattern:~2025-12345-67 (a tilde, year of creation, a number split into units of 5).
All subsequent actions by the temporary account user will be attributed to this username. The cookie will expire 90 days after its creation. As long as it exists, all edits made from this device will be attributed to this temporary account. It will be the same account even if the IP address changes, unless the user clears their cookies or uses a different device or web browser.
A record of the IP address used at the time of each edit will be stored for 90 days after the edit. Users with thetemporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right will be able to see the underlying IP addresses.
As a measure against vandalism, there are two limitations on the creation of temporary accounts:
There has to be a minimum of 10 minutes between subsequent temporary account creations from the same IP (or /64 range in case of IPv6).
There can be a maximum of 6 temporary accounts created from an IP (or /64 range) within a period of 24 hours.
Temporary account IP viewer user right
How to enable IP Reveal
Administrators may grant thetemporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right to non-administrators who meet thecriteria for granting. Importantly, an editor must make an explicit request for the permission (e.g. atWP:PERM/TAIV)—administrators arenot permitted to assign the right without a request.
It will be possible to block many abusers by just blocking their temporary accounts. A blocked person won't be able to create new temporary accounts quickly if the admin selects theautoblock option.
It will still be possible to block an IP address or IP range.
Temporary accounts will not be retroactively applied to contributions made before the deployment. OnSpecial:Contributions, you will be able to see existing IP user contributions, but not new contributions made by temporary accounts on that IP address. Instead, you should useSpecial:IPContributions for this (see a video about IPContributions in a gallery below).
Rules about IP information disclosure
Publicizing an IP address gained through TAIV access isgenerally not allowed (e.g.~2025-12345-67 previously edited as 192.0.2.1 or~2025-12345-67's IP address is 192.0.2.1).
Publicly linking a TA to another TA is allowed if "reasonably believed to be necessary". (e.g.~2025-12345-67 and ~2025-12345-68 are likely the same person, so I am counting their reverts together toward3RR, but notHey ~2025-12345-68, you did some good editing as ~2025-12345-67)

Hi Lectonar, Michel F Bryant here. I am excited to meet you and to be an active Wikipedia participant. First, I am assuming that since I made it this far in the process, that my Home and User pages are correctly set up. If you have any suggestions that would make them better, please share. I would like to understand how to make the most of every opportunity available to Wikipedia contributors. At first glance, the amount of information seems overwhelming. My questions is how do I find and contribute to articles within my area of interest? After we find articles of interest, I will need assistence with my first edits or contributions. Thanks, and I'm looking forward to working with you and others. --Michel F Bryant (talk)14:09, 3 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, are you available to assist me with submitting two short articles and or contributions? More specifically, I would need guidance on meeting Wikipedia formatting and other submission standards.
Ideally, I would like to write the articles the way I know how. I believe clear, provable biblical facts are more credible than unprovable theological claims.
I would like to submit the articles for review, WITHOUT them being published or otherwise seen until they are in compliance. I want to work with one person to guide me through to successful submissions. Afterwards, make the articles available to everyone.
Michel F Bryant, everything you write on Wikipedia is always visible to everyone, there is no way to achieve what you want. Before writing anything, you should look at existing articles to get an idea of what is required, creating a viable article from scratch is more difficult than you might think, and everything you write must be supported byindependent verifiable sources. Also bear in mind, that religion, like politics, is something of a minefield, Wikipedia is about verifiability, not beliefs, and, given that editors here may be of other, or no, religion, what seems obvious to you may be challenged by others.Ten Commandments in Catholic theology,Problem of religious language andAugustinian theodicy are examples of well-written articles, although you won't be aiming for that level of detail.Jimfbleak -talk to me?09:45, 9 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your quick response to my request for assistance with formatting my article, BEFORE it is submitted to Wikipedia for review. There are third-party service providers that will work for hire to provide the assistance I am requesting. Are you saying I cannot hire an active Wikipedia contributor to provide the service in a separate environment where we can work on structuring the article without receiving input, before the article is ready?
My response to your quote, “Also bear in mind, that religion, like politics, is something of a minefield, Wikipedia is about verifiability, not beliefs, and, given that editors here may be of other, or no, religion, what seems obvious to you may be challenged by others.”
Is that, “I believe, clear and provable biblical facts are more credible than unprovable theological claims.” EVERYTHING that Wikipedia has endorsed and confirmed as verifiable information concerning the lineage of Jesus is based on unproven theological claims. The factual answers to two simple questions challenge the accuracy of the information Wikipedia presents as verifiable facts concerning the lineage of Jesus.
Being religious or having no religion has nothing to do with one’s ability to recognize and acknowledge confirmable and relatable facts, biblical or otherwise. The factual information that I wish to present in an article concerning the lineage of Jesus is drastically different from what Wikipedia has endorsed as biblical facts on the matter.
There is only one question on the table that needs to be answered at this time. Is there an active Wikipidea contributor available for hire to assist me with structuring and preparing my article for submission? Yes or no?Michel F Bryant (talk)16:18, 9 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your response. So are you saying the company associated with the link below is a scam? Are they qualified to assist with structing our contribution to comply with Wikipedia guidelines. I think you may be mistaken. The source only mentions when the club made the announcement. "Ce mardi 9 décembre, le club lyonnais a annoncé la mort d’un ancien joueur, formé au club : Ludovic Assémoassa." translates to "On Tuesday 9 December, the Lyon club announced the death of a former player who trained at the club: Ludovic Assémoassa.". It doesn't state the death occurred on that date.
The club's announcement on Twitter reads: "Ludovic Assémoassa, enfant de l'Academy, international Togolais, nous a quittés." - "Ludovic Assémoassa, a product of the Academy and Togolese international, has left us.".
Yes, while the Le Progrès article refers to the Lyon announcement, it also has further information surrounding Assemoassa's passing so I'm confident they have independently verified the date. Happy editing,Robby.is.on (talk)11:19, 15 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate your good faith attempt attesting whether long-term protection is necessary forRay William Johnson, but upon checking the log, I have unfortunately come to the conclusion that the risks of leaving thisbiography of a living person open for unregistered editors outweigh any possible benefits. This experiment was tested in August of 2016, and resulted in the page being reprotected over half-a-year later. Furthermore, the amount of traffic it currently receives is not much different than when protection was reapplied (500 daily visitors vs. 700).
They are also plenty examples of articles whose subjects are past the peak of their relevancy but are still protected, one example that comes to mind isVanilla Ice. The article for the nu metal giantKorn was given indefinite protection in 2024, though they are well past their prime.Giovanni Potage (talk)11:39, 19 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Giovanni Potage: I have not completely unprotected it, but put it under pending-changes protection for some months; that way, vandalism and such will not go "live" for others to see. I also have watchlisted the article, and will evaluate the level of disruption. That is my modus-operandi with articles like this, and I have had good results allover. If there's too much disruption, I will up to semi-protection again.Lectonar (talk)11:47, 19 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I'm interested in editing pages on New Zealand travel (that's my area of expertise), but I'm not sure how to find my way to that content. Any tips? Thanks --Kiwi travel (talk)20:54, 27 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I noticed an article that had a recent edit that skews toward editorializing and the editors own opinions. (An "I" statement, pontificating, attacking information in the article in a paragraph below it) I wasn't sure what the procedure is for flagging it or how I could notify someone else so it gets noticed and changed.
@HoneyBunBandit: Sorry for the late reply: that would fall somewhere betweenWP:OR andWP:SYNTH. When you see something like this, better handle it yourself: the onus of "proving" something is on the one introducing the changes, seeWP:BRD. Said edit has already been reverted .Lectonar (talk)14:41, 2 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Lectonar, I have created a couple of articles for movies, but I can't seem to attach a poster photo because I do not own rights to them. However, most mainstream movie Wiki pages have posters on them. How do I proceed? Thanks!— Precedingunsigned comment added byPinayprideful (talk •contribs)10:44, 30 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Lectonar, and thank you for being my mentor. How can I copy a source citation from one Wikipedia page to another? Thanks a lot for your help, Cathesther --CathEsther (talk)23:52, 30 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Try this please: -1. use the source editor: open the source page in the "edit source" mode to copy the text and all references (e.g., "cite web" or "ref...ref" tags), 2. copy to target: paste this code into the destination article, 3. attribute the source: in the edit summary of the target article, you must provide attribution. A valid edit summary looks like: "content copied fromfr:article Name", 4. handle citations: ensure that the references copied are properly supported by a references list "reflist" or references in the target article. This should (normally) work. More info atWikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.Lectonar (talk)
hello! I nominated Mr Hansen for an award and the governor of Kentucky has commissioned him officially as a Colonel for services to law enforcement. I have the certificate to present to Mr Hansen so I can share with you but can you help me please articulate these updates into his wiki bio article please sir? for example his title should be updated to Colonel above his name as is the style. also how can I attach the declaration by the governor ? thanks! --Col. Could you delete my user talk page and then restore it with all of the edits except edits made today? I want their vandalism to be completely gone.sapphaline (talk)14:04, 9 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I think this might be better done viaWikipedia:Oversight and suppression; please mail the oversight team (link on page linked). Even with deletion and selective undeletion the edits wouldn't be completely gone. I have semi-protected your talk-page for a week for the time being.Lectonar (talk)14:12, 9 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
"Even with deletion and selective undeletion the edits wouldn't be completely gone" - them being gone from page's history and their contributions page is enough for me.sapphaline (talk)14:15, 9 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, but I don't think this would fall under oversight. It's stupid and irritating harassment, and some of the earlier ones certainly fall under RD2; some of the more recent ones, I don't know. RD3 might apply, sure. I do not see grounds for oversighting any of the edits that I looked at.user:sapphaline, I'm sorry you have to deal with it, but while it may be difficult for you not to hit "revert" every time that jerk comes by, I need to ask you to refrain. First of all, all it does is make more work for us, and it makes a mess of the history. Second, perhaps more importantly, the jerk is trying to get under your skin, and it seems like they are succeeding: every time you revert, they get that pleasure. Don't give em that pleasure. Report, and let us deal with it. Thanks.Drmies (talk)15:33, 9 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
"while it may be difficult for you not to hit "revert" every time that jerk comes by, I need to ask you to refrain" - these are not manual reverts, I run a script.sapphaline (talk)15:38, 9 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I do this mainly to distract them because they'll try to disrupt other pages with my contributions, and reverting their vandalism on them will be more difficult than reverting it on my talk page, especially on high-traffic pages like AIV.sapphaline (talk)15:44, 9 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
It's not working. Please don't continue. I don't have a script that does revdeletion, and the history--well you can see what it looks like. Reverting vandalism on other pages is no more difficult than reverting it on your talk page.Drmies (talk)15:57, 9 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you all for chiming in...@Drmies: I was probably too naive concerning oversight :).@Rsjaffe: Thanks for your work in revdeling and protecting said talk-page.@Sapphaline: I am not sure selective deletion is the way to go here, and I will not do it either; I would follow Drmies' advice: he's one of the most savvy admins here. Anyway, I have already watchlisted your talk-page, and will act accordingly.Lectonar (talk)08:02, 10 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Due to the result of a recentmotion, a rough consensus of administrators at thearbitration enforcement noticeboard may impose an expanded topic ban on Israel, Israelis, Jews, Judaism, Palestine, Palestinians, Islam, and/or Arabs, if an editor'sArab-Israeli conflict topic ban is determined to be insufficient to prevent disruption. At least one diff per area expanded into should be cited.
