Hello again. You are no longer active now, which is a shame, and it's sad to see another old sparring partnerScottyWong retiring too. But I was pondering whether to attend theWikimania in Singapore and, as you're based in a nearby country, wondered whether you are likely to attend. As we both attended the HK Wikimania together, it would be nice to know whether there will be any familiar faces there.

DearKudpung, this is in response to the post you made to my page about excessive draftification, probably in response to my post toJoe (and, I think you also posted toTalk:Laurence D. Marks which I don't normally edit for obvious reasons). I tend to do NPP on academics/science topics, so I had not seen until a few days ago draftification by a less experienced user. Earlier today I went to check the articles and found thatSafariScribe had already reverted quite a few by the same user, hence I am adding him here to the discussion.

I would definitely support your suggestion to limit Draftification to users with reviewer rights (NPP/NPR). I think most of them are fairly careful, and while a few may be a bit too gentle in their reviews (IMO) I have not seen abuse. I thinkJoe is pretty careful about adding NPP rights (and possibly other relevant admins, I have only interacted with Joe to date). I would allow extended confirmed users to tag for notability etc, that would be fine. Perhaps open a RfC atWT:NPR?Ldm1954 (talk)23:26, 19 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

HiLaurence. Thank you for your feedback. Joe is a very experienced admin and a regular contributor to NPP both as an admin at PERM and a reviewer. Some research has begun into why backlog drives are possibly less effective than they were and I have not seen any misuse of the draft system by regular NPP right holders. A proper RFC for a new policy would be best launched on a NPR sub page, and supported by stats and empirical evidence. The stats are being gathered but I don't think we're ready for it just yet because it indirectly concerns a topic that might involve one or two other refinements to the Curation Tools and how we can better help new user who register with the prime intent of creating an article as their first edits.Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk)23:48, 19 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think I suggested you did make a reference to notability, indeed notability was not the concern with this article. I am however reminded of a comment I once read made by an admin:When doing NPP and coming across an article with lack of evidence of notability and/or inadequate referencing, one has the options of draftifying it, requesting speedy, or starting an AfD discussion [...] In my experience, if you draftify, someone will squeal and tell you in no uncertain terms you should have gone for deletion instead. And if you go for deletion, you will get heat for not draftifying. (Also, if you request speedy, you'll be told you should've gone for AfD, and v.v.) I think the technical term for this is "****ed if you do, ****ed if you don't" some of us have been working on an embryonic project for 2 years now which will hopefully make the control of new article easier for both reviewers and admins alike. HiSignifica liberdade, it's not directly related to reviewing new pages at all so it may not be of interest to reviewers or even coordinators of NPP. An effort should be maintained however to avoid duplication of ideas that have long since been ruled out. What it will do is to significantly simplify the workload of reviewers by reducing the number of imperfect or inappropriate new articles in the feed. You can takea look at both pages for a summary of work done previously and if you are still interested, you can leave a comment on the talk page and eventually take part in the next video conference (this time without the Director of the WMF's Growth Team). HiSignifica liberdade, It's a very simple concept and easy in the making (much of it is done already), but from the perspective of linguistics, UX, and UI design, your ideas would be an essential contribution to the content of some of the linked pages that will summarise in a few words the walls of text of PAGs which new users will ignore (every freshy ofCommunication studies knows this). I am familiar with them only because I've been around on Wiki for nearly 20 years with my main focus on NPP. DYK that our notability guidelines are 44,035 words (up to 5 hours reading time) and that there are a further 113 essays on the subject?^[1] You'll see that rather than huge and broad, the proposal is actually tight and concise. I do remember the days when I first joined Wikipedia and that was more than 10 years ago. Time really flies. I remember asking you for advice on the tiniest of things and looking back at our discussions last time, I wasreally disrespectful to you and I can't believe I said those things to you in the past. Looking back on those days, I realise that the young me was so immature and brazen. I guess it was years of adminship elsewhere and experience out in the real world that made me grow - having to make tough decisions and settle conflicts were not easy. Thank you for remembering me even though I was absent all this while. Indeed, I have not edited Wikipedia for quite some time, only making a few edits or reverts every now and then.
