DCWC closing update

[edit]

The2024 Developing Countries WikiContest has come to a close! After a thrilling finish to the event with a slew of submissions on the final day, we have our winners. With 608 points,Bronze Belt Buckle – 3rd placeThebiguglyalien (submissions) comes in third with his series of Kiribati and Botswanan submissions;Silver Belt Buckle – 2nd placeTuvaluBeanieFan11 (submissions) flies into second place at the last second with 771 points after a string of good articles about sportspersons; and after leading for much of contest's three months,Gold Belt Buckle – 1st placeGeneralissima (submissions) finishes with a whopping 798 points to take home theGold Belt Buckle. Congratulations to our winners!

In addition to his spot in the top three,TuvaluBeanieFan11 (submissions) also wins the special awards for submitting under the most countries (44 countries) and for writing the most articles about women (15 Did you know? nominations)!IndiaMagentic Manifestations (submissions), after making 16 submissions under the Indian flag—15 of them good articles—receives the awards for most submissions for a single country and most featured or good articles promoted. For their submission of one FAC review, five FLC reviews, and 20 GAN reviews,Simongraham (submissions) wins for most article reviews.

The results of the contest have far exceeded any expectations the coordinators had for it at the beginning: among the submissions to the event were 3 FAs, 10 FLs, 88 GAs, dozens of article reviews of every kind, and more Did you know? submissions than we can count! Regardless of your level of participation, every contestant can be proud to have contributed towards a major step in countering thesystemic bias on Wikipedia. Thank you for participating with us in the contest and contributing to this effort. The DCWC will return next year and we look forward to seeing you contribute again! However, before that...

We need your feedback! Join the conversation onthe talk page to discuss your reflections on the contest (even if you didn't participate!) and help us make it better.

This submission is not adequately supported byreliable sources.Reliable sources are required so that information can beverified. If you need help with referencing, please seeReferencing for beginners andCiting sources.
This submission does not appear to be written inthe formal tone expected of an encyclopedia article. Entries should be written from aneutral point of view, and should refer to a range ofindependent, reliable, published sources. Please rewrite your submission in a more encyclopedic format. Please make sure to avoidpeacock terms that promote the subject.
The comment the reviewer left was:
Should be notable, but not quite ready. SeeWP:BLP. Statements, starting with the date of birth, need to be sourced or removed. The subject was certainly not born in 1846!Also, unsourced promotional content such as "voice of reason and accountability" and "fondly remembered" needs to be removed.

WikiCup 2025 May newsletter

[edit]

The second round of the 2025 WikiCup ended on 28 April at 23:59 UTC. To reiterate what we said in the previous newsletter, we are no longer disqualifying contestants based on how many points (now known as round points) they received. Instead, the contestants with the highest round-point totals now receivetournament points at the end of each round. These tournament points are carried over between rounds, and can only be earned if a competitor is among the top 16 round-point scorers at the end of each round. This table shows all competitors who have received tournament points so far. Everyone who competed in round 2 will advance to round 3 unless they have withdrawn or been banned.

Round 2 was quite competitive. Four contestants scored more than 1,000 round points, and eight scored more than 500 points (including one who has withdrawn). The following competitors scored at least 800 points:

In addition, we would like to recognizeGeneralissima (submissions) for her efforts; she scored 801 round points but withdrew before the end of the round.

The full scores for round 2 can be seenhere. During this round, contestants have claimed 13 featured articles, 20 featured lists, 4 featured-topic articles, 138 good articles, 7 good-topic articles, and more than 100 Did You Know articles. In addition, competitors have worked on 19 In the News articles, and they have conducted nearly 300 reviews.

Remember that any content promoted after 28 April but before the start of Round 3 can be claimed in Round 3. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it onWikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Questions are welcome onWikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck!If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name fromWikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send.MediaWiki message delivery (talk)01:02, 29 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
