I always check half a dozen dictionaries nowadays - it is so easy to do so, after all. At first I thought it was a case of U.S. spelling versus everyone else but apparently both spellings are fine in both American AND English. If anything yours seems to be the "preferred" one (or at least the "most common") everywhere. Amusingly, the Wiki article on the termas used in biology uses the "alternative" spelling. English spelling is "right daft" - as my old Dad would have said. --Soundofmusicals (talk)05:09, 28 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Adopt-a-typo is an effort to harness a movement that already exists in Wikipedia. Individual users already pick typos that particularly irritate them, and search for them in the Wikipedia articles. Adopt-a-typo is intended to do three things:
Add social credit to this practice, so that users feel enticed to join and adopt.
Catalog the growth of the adopt a typo movement, so that there is a list ofALL adopted typos.
Enable those who want to adopt a typo to do so quickly and easily.
Why do you want to start this new group, instead of joining one of these existing groups?
I, and probably you, have joined several groups that pursue the same goal through different means, but we at Adopt-a-Typo believe this proposal harnesses the unique power that Wikipedia has with its mass conglomerate of editors.

Hi, since your name's down on this project, I'm just writing to let you know that there's adiscussion going on at the moment on how to format events – and in particular, events that go on for multiple days – on year pages. Your input would be appreciated. —Smjg (talk)18:24, 15 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject AFC is holding a month longBacklog Elimination Drive! The goal of this drive is toeliminate the backlog of unreviewed articles. The drive is running fromMarch 1, 2014 to March 31, 2014.
Awards will be given out for all reviewers participating in the drive in the form of barnstars at the end of the drive. There is a backlog of over 2700 articles, so start reviewing articles! Visit thedrive's page and help out!
Hello Duanedonecker. This message is part of a mass mailing to people who appear active in reviewing articles for creation submissions. First of all, thank you for taking part in this important work! I'm sorry this message is a form letter – it really was the only way I could think of to covey the issue economically. Of course, this also means that I have not looked to see whether the matter is applicable toyou in particular.
The issue is in rather large numbers of copyright violations ("copyvios") making their way through AfC reviews without being detected (even when easy to check, and even whenhallmarks of copyvios in the text that should have invited a check, were glaring). A second issue is the correct method of dealing with them when discovered.
If you don't do so already, I'd like to ask for your to help with this problem by taking on the practice of performing a copyvio check as the first step in any AfC review. The most basic method is to simply copy a unique but small portion of text from the draft body and run it through a search engine in quotation marks. Trying this from two different paragraphs is recommended. (If you have any question about whether the text was copiedfrom the draft, rather than the other way around (a "backwards copyvio"), theWayback Machine is very useful for sussing that out.)
If you do find a copyright violation, pleasedo not decline the draft on that basis. Copyright violations need to be dealt with immediately as they may harm those whose content is being used and expose Wikipedia to potential legal liability. If the draft is substantially a copyvio, and there's no non-infringing version to revert to, please mark the page for speedy deletion right away using {{db-g12|url=URL of source}}. If there is an assertion of permission, please replace the draft article's content with {{subst:copyvio|url=URL of source}}.
Some of the more obvious indicia of a copyvio are use of the first person ("we/our/us..."), phrases like "this site", or apparent artifacts of content written for somewhere else ("top", "go to top", "next page", "click here", use of smartquotes, etc.); inappropriate tone of voice, such as an overly informal tone or a very slanted marketing voice withweasel words; including intellectual property symbols (™,®); and blocks of text being added all at once in a finished form with no misspellings or other errors.
This message was accidentally sent using an incorrect mailing list, therefore this message is being resent using the correct list. As a result, some users may get this message twice; if so please discard. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Hi. TheWikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/IrelandWikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much likeWikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country likeWikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa.05:53, 6 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
You are invited to participate in the20,000 Challenge, aiming for 20,000 article improvements and creations for articles relating to theUnited States. This effort began on November 1, 2016 and to reach our goal, we will need editors like you to participate, expand, and create. See morehere!
G'day all, please be advised that throughout March 2017 the Military history Wikiproject is running itsMarch Madness drive. This is a backlog drive that is focused on several key areas:
tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
updating the project's currently listed A-class articles to ensure their ongoing compliance with the listed criteria
creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various task force pages or other lists of missing articles.
As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.
The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the military history scope will be considered eligible. More information can be foundhere for those that are interested, and members can sign up as participants at that page also.
The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 March and runs until 23:59 UTC on 31 March 2017, so please sign up now.

"Military history" is one of the most important subjects when speak of sum of all human knowledge. To support contributors interested in the area over various language Wikipedias, we intend to form a user group. It also provides a platform to share the best practices between military historians, and various military related projects on Wikipedias. An initial discussion was has been done between the coordinators and members of WikiProject Military History on English Wikipedia. Now this discussion has been taken to Meta-Wiki. Contributors intrested in the area of military history are requested to share their feedback and give suggestions atTalk:Discussion to incubate a user group for Wikipedia Military Historians.
