September 2025

[edit]

Information icon Thank you foryour contributions to Wikipedia. Regarding your recent edits toWilliam Henry Ford when you modified the page, you introducedunknown parameters. Just because you specify|some_param=some_variable does not always mean that variable will display. The|some_param= must be defined in the template. You can look at the documentation for the template you are using but it is also helpful to use thepreview button before you save your edit; this helps you find any errors you have made and ensure that the values you have added are displaying correctly. Below the edit box is aShow preview button. Pressing this will show you what the page will look like without actually saving it. It is strongly recommended that you use this before saving. If you have any questions, contact thehelp desk for assistance.Thank you.Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing)19:31, 29 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Zackmann08 I don't see where any stray parameters were introduced in deleting copyvio and requesting revdel? I am quite familiar with how to preview changes and would appreciate it if you could show me specifically what the error was in this case.Dclemens1971 (talk)19:42, 29 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Please accept my apologies. I just looked back at the page history and it was NOT your edit but that of505noscope. Thank you for pinging me and seeking further information and please accept my apologies, I certainly meant no offense. Keep up the good work!Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing)19:46, 29 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Alleged copyvio In re:Norberto Geraldez

[edit]

Hi Sir! My edits were made in good faith and were not intended to copy in toto from the cited sources. The material I added consists of factual details about Justice Geraldez’s career, appointment, and death, which are non-copyrightable under both Philippine and international copyright law. Any similarity in phrasing is incidental and stems from the obituary-style reporting of these events in the cited sources.

I understand the concern about close paraphrasing and I am willing to rephrase to avoid any appearance of overlap. However, I respectfully submit that the information itself is factual and permissible under Wikipedia’s guidelines. Similar cases, such asGeorgina Hidalgo andEdilberto Sandoval, have shown that government or factual biographical material can be presented without being a copyright violation, provided it is properly paraphrased and sourced.

--Thank you and best regards --Batoenonghistoryador

Batoenonghistoryador You are correct that Philippine government sources may be copiedif appropriately attributed. But the source you copied/closely paraphrased from onNorberto Geraldez is not a public domain source like a Philippines government document. It's a copyright article from theGMA Network. P.S. Did you use an LLM or AI-based tool to write this comment? It sure reads like an AI-generated comment. Please readWP:AITALK; on Wikipedia, we expect editors to communicate in their own words on talk pages.Dclemens1971 (talk)10:52, 30 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

You can't see the content or metadata, but you can see that theyexist. Check the editor's total number of contributions. Often with these UPE sleepers you'll see they've already got a dozen or so - on an article we deleted a year or more ago. --asilvering (talk)12:55, 6 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Asilvering Thanks for the tip, didn't think to check Xtools.Dclemens1971 (talk)13:03, 6 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
If you have the xtools gadget enabled, you don't even need to go there - just look at the small print at the top of their contributions page (on desktop, anyway, no idea about mobile). --asilvering (talk)15:13, 6 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Moving Abdul Karim Bangura to AFC

[edit]

Hello, @Dclemens1971, thank you for reviewingAbdul Karim Bangura article. I have since moved it to Draftspace upon reading your feedback, so I can effectively redo the article addressing all the concerns raised. However, @Zzz plant nominated it for speedy deletion because I apparently moved it from mainspace to draftspace. I wasn't aware that this was not acceptable. Could you assist in moving the article intoAFC as I do not have the power to do that myself? Thank you.SyzygyRebel (talk)08:37, 9 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

SyzygyRebel Speedy deletion of a redirect left behind after draftification is a normal procedural move. If you think the article is ready to submit to AfC, then there's a big blue "submit" button near the top of the article. Clicking that will put it into the queue for AfC review. Please note: I don't see any new sources since the last time I reviewed it, and I still don't see evidence that the guy isnotable (claims about him being the "most educated person in the world" in Nigerian news outlets are fluff and do not stand up to scrutiny). I'd suggest looking for more sources before putting it back into the AfC queue.Dclemens1971 (talk)13:51, 9 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks greatly for your timely response @Dclemens1971. As it stands, I just want to leave it in Draftspace to edit it properly or rewrite it before I submit it to be reviewed. I just got confused thinking it was supposed to be in theAFC space as suggested byZzz plant. Is it okay to leave it in Draftspace until I finish editing it for submission?SyzygyRebel (talk)14:39, 9 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@SyzygyRebel Nope, you can keep working on it in draftspace indefinitely! Just be sure to edit it every six months so it doesn't get deleted from draftspace due to inactivity. I would recommend using AfC when you're ready to submit, since the AfC process can help editors who are unfamiliar with how our notability guidelines get applied.Dclemens1971 (talk)14:42, 9 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Micah Parrish

[edit]

I'm confused about what happened on the Micah Parrish page. Could you please explain? Thank you!TheGreatestBigC (talk)00:36, 23 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@TheGreatestBigC Editors introduced large amounts of text that constitutedcopyright violations, not because they were verbatim copying but because they wereclose paraphrases of copyrighted material. That kind of material is not allowed on Wikipedia and was removed, and past revisions weredeleted from the page history because of the copyright violation.Dclemens1971 (talk)00:54, 23 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Is there anything I could do to fix it and add some content back, without copyright? ThanksTheGreatestBigC (talk)14:40, 23 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary account IP viewer granted

[edit]
The temporary account IP viewer logo, composed of the Wikipedia globe with a user and an IP address

Hello, Dclemens1971. Per your request, your account has beengrantedtemporary-account-viewer rights. You are now able to reveal the IP addresses of individuals usingtemporary accounts that are not visible to the general public. This is very sensitive information that isonly to be used to aid in anti-abuse workflows. Please take a moment to reviewWikipedia:Temporary account IP viewer for more information on this user right. It is important to remember:

  • You must not share IP address data with someone who does not have the same access permissions unless disclosure is permissible as per guidelines listed atFoundation:Policy:Wikimedia Access to Temporary Account IP Addresses Policy.
  • Accessmust not be used for political control, to apply pressure on editors, or as a threat against another editor in a content dispute. There must be a valid reason to investigate a temporary user. Note that using multiple temporary accounts is not forbidden, so long as they are not used in violation of policies (for example, block or ban evasion).

It is also important to note that the following actions are logged for others to see:

  • When a user accepts the preference that enables or disables IP reveal for their account.
  • Revealing an IP address of a temporary account.
  • Listing the temporary accounts that are associated with one or moreIP addresses (using theCIDR notation format).

Remember, even if a user is violating policy, avoid revealing personal information if possible. Use temporary account usernames rather than disclosing IP addresses directly, or give information such as same network/not same network or similar. If you do not want the user right anymore then please ask me or another administrator and it will be removed for you. You may also voluntarily give up access at any time by visitingSpecial:Preferences. Happy editing!Extraordinary Writ (talk)02:42, 26 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
