Invitation to participate in a research

[edit]

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in thisanonymous survey.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on itsMeta page and view itsprivacy statement .

Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind Regards,

WMF Research Team

There is a difference

[edit]

There is a difference between cities like St. Louis and Buffalo,St. Louis does not require state disambiguation per AP and Wiki style guide, butBuffalo, New York does, to disambiguate it fromBuffalo, topics referred to by the same term. Applying a separate link for Missouri as you tried to do the first time is a direct violation of theMOS:GEOLINK and adding the link area over Missouri is justnot an improvement when there is no blue there. Please see the first and second tick inMOS:GEOLINK where it shows the correct way to link cities that do not have the state in the articles actual title.Wamalotpark (talk)19:30, 14 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Also please do not suggest anyone "told someone they are stupid" according to your own words, when all I did was revert an edit you made in direct violation of a manual of style, and only stated the source. And I'm not new, I have thousands of edits. I understand "first time references are always wiki linked", according to your own words, but there are exceptions for the manual of style.Wamalotpark (talk)19:39, 14 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
LOL - buddy take a chill! First I didn't say you are stupid - lots of new editors don't know Wiki backwards and forwards. Second you claim the MOS as the reason for reverting my edit and then you say that the MOS has exceptions so it should just be ignored. Finally you've been editing for 6 months, your log count is app 500 (per Wiki), and your signature is in red, which means you are not verified, you have no personal page and I created your Talk page, so I'm not sure where the attitude is coming from....
I was trying to be helpful, but its clear if you get your back up on such a small thing you have no time for help.Ckruschke (talk)16:49, 18 February 2025 (UTC)Ckruschke[reply]

My edit

[edit]

I do not understand why my edits forIra C. Baker are worse. They do not seem worse to me, I am simplifying things. I am not doing anything incorrectly.Dylankhoatrinh (talk)04:14, 16 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The thing is there are a lot of military personnel in the U.S. who do not have flagsDylankhoatrinh (talk)15:23, 16 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I do not understand because editors and administrators say different things.Dylankhoatrinh (talk)15:28, 16 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. I mean if I hadn't reverted it someone else would have. Just move on.Ckruschke (talk)16:47, 16 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
If you are talking about theIra C. Eaker page, your "simplifications" broke the infobox and were unneeded since there was nothing wrong with the content you changed - getting rid of Wikilinks that include flags makes the page look worse. When you make an edit, make sure you preview the page before you approve your edits. If it looks worse, then don't do it. Pretty simple.

Introduction to contentious topics

[edit]

You have recently edited a page related toarticles aboutliving or recently deceased people, and edits relating to the subject (living or recently deceased) of such biographical articles, a topic designated ascontentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics anddoesnot imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to ascontentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by theArbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia's norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipediaadministrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should editcarefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topicsprocedures, you may ask them at thearbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topichere. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the{{Ctopics/aware}} template.Hipal (talk)22:22, 18 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't make an edit @Hipal - I put in a comment on Talk which doesn't violate anything in your little tag above. If this is how you respond to someone disagreeing with you, slapping up a clearly bogus warning on someone's own page to bully another editor into silence, it looks like my Talk comment was square on.Ckruschke (talk)17:08, 22 July 2025 (UTC)Ckruschke[reply]
Since you bring it up, "follow editorial and behavioural best practices", please. Your response here isn't any better. If you're going to contribute in areas with sanctions, this isn't how to do so. --Hipal (talk)18:34, 22 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
