Introduction to contentious topics

[edit]

You have recently edited a page related toarticles aboutliving or recently deceased people, and edits relating to the subject (living or recently deceased) of such biographical articles, a topic designated ascontentious. This standard message is designed as an introduction to contentious topics anddoesnot imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially-designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should editcarefully andconstructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topicsprocedures you may ask them at thearbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topichere. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the{{Ctopics/aware}} template.

2023 Judo Grand Slam Astana moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created,2023 Judo Grand Slam Astana, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more in-depth coverage about the subject itself, with citations fromreliable,independent sources in order to show it meetsWP:GNG. It should have at least three, to be safe. And please remember that interviews, as primary sources, do not count towards GNG.(?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is ofcentral importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft todraftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia'sgeneral notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.Onel5969TT me10:23, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent editing history atJudo at the 2024 Summer Olympics – Qualification shows that you are currently engaged in anedit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use thetalk page to work toward making a version that representsconsensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war; read abouthow this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevantnoticeboard or seekdispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporarypage protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in you beingblocked from editing—especially if you violate thethree-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than threereverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you do not violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.Sportsfan 1234 (talk)21:27, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. In arecent edit you added/restored content to a sports-bio article which described its subject as an "accomplished [athlete]", with "remarkable achievements", undertaking "impressive feat[s]", as "a rising star", of "remarkable skill" and "prowess", whose bronze medal placing was "remarkable", making the subject "a force to be reckoned with on the international stage". Given that this type offloweryeditorial,promotionaltone andinappropriatepuffery is counter to my understanding of any number of policies and norms,I have removed it again. Your submission atArticles for creation:Romain Valadier-Picard (November 4)

[edit]
Your recent article submission toArticles for Creation has been reviewed. Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reason left by Turnagra was:
This submission's references do not show that the subjectqualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not showsignificant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject inpublished,reliable,secondary sources that areindependent of the subject (see theguidelines on the notability of people). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (seetechnical help and learn aboutmistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Wikipedia.
 The comment the reviewer left was:
Thanks for adding a few more references - unfortunately, database-type sites such as that don't help to demonstrate notability as they tend to catalogue all competitors regardless of their notability. Try to find some independent secondary sources which specifically discuss this person, as that's the sort of thing which will help to establish notability.
Please check the submission for any additional comments left by the reviewer. You are encouraged to edit the submission to address the issues raised and resubmitafter they have been resolved.

Asian Games templates

[edit]

Hi, you made some edits to templates I created for Asian Games champions, I mean those in thiscategory, at the time I was busy with other things and had no time for a long discussion, instead I stopped creating more templates until that future discussion which I think can happen now. while I like some parts of your edits, I disagree with some of them, first I understand your point about making them similar to Pan-Am Games templates but Asian Games is a big event with lots of sports with Judo as just one of them. I really like to make all templates inthis category look alike, soI think being an Asian Games event stays above of being a Judo event. I could edit the templates but I thought it's better to talk about our little disagreement first, thanks.Sports2021 (talk)01:33, 19 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Sports2021: Thank you for this message. I do see your point of the virtue in having a uniform look toSPORT at the CONTINENTAL GAMES – EVENT templates, but don't think that one currently exists. For example, I implemented in theAsian Games judo templates the format used forCategory:European Judo Championships navigational boxes(i.e.{{EC Judo M60}}) andCategory:Judo Pan American champions navigational boxes(i.e.{{Footer Pan American Champions Judo Extra Lightweight Men}}) — which is very similar to Asian Games template such as{{Footer Asian Games Champions 100 metres Men}}. I've also seen "simpler" Asian Games such as{{Footer Asian Games Champions 50m Backstroke Men}} &{{Footer Asian Games Champions 200 metres Women}}.

My point is: I thank you for stating this discussion that could lead to a productive resolution, uniforming all continental championships/games templates (or even just Asian ones). I do think this discussion is of a broader scope than my personal talk page and that such a consistent format doesn't currently exists.CLalgo (talk)07:16, 19 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, you have a valid point, but where do you suggest? the only possible place isthis and it's pretty much inactive. but I can give it a try. personally I'm insisting on any specific format (maybe except couple of things) I just want them to look as similar as possible.Sports2021 (talk)18:36, 19 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

All 2024 European Judo Championships pages I created had sources before they where draftified and their WikiData linkage was broken.CLalgo (talk)06:52, 28 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Shady Elnahas

[edit]

Hi there. I noticed you've just changed several pages related toShady Elnahas to read "El Nahas". Unfortunately, there is no space between 'El' and 'nahas' in his surname, as you can see from his ownInstagram page and theCanadian Olympic Team listing. You're not the first one to make the mistake, though, as I see that his page was moved from the correct spelling to the incorrect spelling by someone else in 2021. –CanadianJudoka (talk)21:46, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@CanadianJudoka: I've changed spellings of Shady's and his brother's surnames to match Shady's current article title. While the current version is used inThe-Sports,Olympedia &AllJudo, The version you advocate for is indeed used inOlympics.com,IJF.org &JudoInside. Therefor, I won't object to you moving the page to theShady Elnahas spelling, as long as you'll also change all the relevant links to both Shady andMohab El Nahas.CLalgo (talk)22:32, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Judo at the 2024 Summer Olympics – Qualification

[edit]

Hi, what was the reason for the revert onJudo at the 2024 Summer Olympics – Qualification? Thearticle by the Swedish Olympic Committee clearly states that Babulfath has been selected and qualified for the Olympics. Regarding Nyman, it merely states that he has been selected if he should qualify. Theselection already occurred 21 November 2023. Moreover, questioning the reliability of the Swedish Olympic Committee is strange, especially when you don't speak Swedish yourself (I assume). -NNoxius (talk)08:49, 7 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@NNoxius: Thank you for this message. Let me begin with saying that I've restored your edit. As for my undoing of it, it came from the anomaly of having theSwedish Olympic Committee selecting the non-qualified Nyman which raised a red flag over the edit. As Babulfath is qualified and your edit in fact regards her alone, I've undid my undoing as there's no true reason to argue about it.CLalgo (talk)09:27, 7 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Edits to one of your user pages

[edit]

I am sorry that youdid not appreciate my edits to encourage you to fix syntax errors on one of your user subpages. The page currently has a "fostered content" error, one of only 69 such errors in all of the English Wikipedia. Having raw Lua code on a page that is interpreted as wikitext is leading to these syntax errors, which is why I encouraged you to move the page to a subpage in Module space, where it will be processed properly. There is a group of editors working to eliminate all fostered content errors from Wikipedia; there were over 8,000 such errors two years ago, so we are almost done. I will try to remember not to edit your page, but I can't promise that other editors will refrain from doing so. –Jonesey95 (talk)22:42, 20 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Unreadable tables in some Judo articles

@Daniel Quinlan: Are you using some kind of special setting that sets the text to a dark shade?CLalgo (talk)07:22, 27 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No. The Vector 2022 skin has a built-in dark mode. Seemw:Manual:Dark mode for more information. Some pages have CSS that only works well in light mode, which is the issue I was fixing. With the change I made, the text should now be readable in both light and dark modes. You can enable dark mode under preferences if you're using Vector 2022. You can also force it temporarily if you are using Vector 2022 by adding?vectornightmode=1 to the URL. By the way, a lot of the text on your usually bright user talk page, including text in the reply dialog, becomes invisible when using dark mode. I had to edit this section directly to compose this response because I couldn't see what I was typing in the reply dialog.Daniel Quinlan (talk)13:32, 27 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion discussion aboutRS:X Youth World Championships

Hello CLalgo, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

While your contributions are appreciated, I wanted to let you know that I've started a discussion about whether an article that you created,RS:X Youth World Championships, should be deleted, as I am not sure that it is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia in its current form. Your comments are welcome atWikipedia:Articles for deletion/RS:X Youth World Championships.

Deletiondiscussions usually run for seven days and arenot votes.Our guide about effectively contributing to such discussions is worth a read. The most common issue in these discussions isnotability, but it's not the only aspect that may be discussed; read the nomination and any other comments carefully before you contribute to the discussion. Quick clarification

[edit]

Hello sir, I hope you're having a good day, and thank you for all the coverage of judo you've done on Wikipedia! 🙂 On the page1983 World Judo Championships, while all the categories say the event took place in October 1983, the body and lead of the page say it took place in September 1983. I was wondering if this was just a typo I could fix, or if it was a deeper issue? Just wanted to check with you first, cheers!Johnson52406:34, 5 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Johnson524: This is a strange one. While theInternational Judo Federation states the championships were held in September,JudoInside,AllJudo andLes Sports state they were held in October. I think there's a need for more definitive sources such as a newspaper clip.CLalgo (talk)07:27, 5 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

2024–25 Israeli Premier League

[edit]

244, 681 Source?Jphwra (talk)11:30, 25 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

vandalism? I personally counted all the matches and goals, spent more than 10 minutes on it, this is one moment. The second last year was the same formula and the clubs played 240 matches, where did you get four more games? About the goals the same, I counted the goals of the first stage + the goals scored in the two groups together, it turned out 668. If you are not satisfied, count it yourself and please do not call my actions vandalism.Jphwra (talk)11:38, 25 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Jphwra: Math:
244 ={{Multiply| {{sum|36|36|36|36|36|36 |34|34|34|34|34|34|34|34}} | 1/2 }}
681 ={{sum|86|75|68|58|51|51 |51|37|52|34|28|26|31|33}}
CLalgo (talk)11:43, 25 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
this is wrong, the first stage matches 26 multiply by seven clubs, it turns out 182 games.
Championship round is another 30 matches
Consolation round is another 28 matches
total is 240
the same for goals, we count all the goals of the first stage
and then separately for the championship round and the consolation round, I got 668 goals. I counted three times. We don't count according to the table because the data of the first stage is stored for the second, namely the first and we count all the goals in the matches of the second stage separately, so there we got 668 but it's not the same figure. Because both figures do not correspond to reality.Jphwra (talk)11:51, 25 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Jphwra: You are correct. I've based the calculations on wrong data from the article.I've corrected the mistakes andrestored your infobox edits.CLalgo (talk)13:32, 25 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Well, you called my changes vandalism. In the Ukrainian-language section, I have over 300,000 edits, is a vandal really capable of doing that?Jphwra (talk)13:41, 25 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I've labeled them aspotential vandalism as they went against the information listed in the article, the same information I've quoted above. Yes, editing a specific parameter, causing it to contradict other parameters in the article, is a valid red flag for potential vandalism.CLalgo (talk)14:30, 25 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:2025 Judo Grand Prix Lima.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploadingFile:2025 Judo Grand Prix Lima.jpg.
