Potato Bot still available?

[edit]

Hi Anypodetos,

Been a while! Glad to see you're still active on WP.

Is Potato Bot still available? I'd like to add codes to language infoboxes to link to the Endangered Language Project, like we did for ISO and Glottolog. The ELP gives population data (nearly always sourced!) which is often at odds with Ethnologue. Plus, besides not being well sourced, Ethnologue is now a very expensive pay service ($2,400/year with maps, $480/year without), so our editors and readers would likely get more out of the ELP.

I have a .csv mapping of languages names, ISO codes, and ELP codes from the ELP. Actually, the ELP 'codes' are just a number to generate a URL for the article. I doubt they're used for anything else, so perhaps we don't want to display them openly, but that can be handled by the infobox template. We'll need them for the URL link regardless.

There are 3350 ELP codes for lects that have ISO codes, and 235 for ones that don't, or at least didn't when the list was compiled (some of which I should submit to ISO, I'm just tired of writing up ISO requests).

Happy New Year! —kwami (talk)05:15, 4 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Kwami!
I haven't done any Python / Wiki API programming in years, so it will take a while to get the bot going again. If you're not in a hurry, I'll look into it. Could you send me the CSV?
And a Happy New Year to you, too! --ἀνυπόδητος (talk)08:31, 4 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Emailed you. Probably easiest to send you the file that way. —kwami (talk)08:46, 4 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

ATC Codes

[edit]

Hello, here is the list of provisional ATC codes assigned to drugs such as sotrovimab. Hope this helps. I will take action on your edit onsotrovimab once you have reviewed this list & replied.Obama gaming (talk)22:02, 28 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I must admit I didn't look at the list of temporary codes. I'm not sure it's a good idea to include these in Wikipedia articles and ATC lists – They are still subject to objections until February 2022 (see theExcel file). If any of these isn't included in the final list (January 2023), it'll probably stay on Wikipedia indefinitely as wrong information. However, I won't object if you remove the fact tag. --ἀνυπόδητος (talk)08:44, 29 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I understand your hesitancy in including these codes due to them being provisional, but if there are any objections I will of course correct them in due time. Perhaps I should add a disclaimer stating that they are temporary? Appreciate your input.Obama gaming (talk)19:14, 29 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
If you have an eye on it, that's fine by me of course. Also, if you have an idea of how to include a disclaimer, feel free. I have no strong opinions on this. --ἀνυπόδητος (talk)19:34, 29 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

What is a dab?

[edit]

Thank you for your edits. As I am new to wiki authoring, could you please tell me what a dab is? Thx!Pharmacometrician (talk)20:10, 11 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, after opening the page itself the full meaning was clear. I evidently did not check - it has a good sub entry now. Thanks so much!Pharmacometrician (talk)20:27, 11 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Pharmacometrician: Sorry, I know I shouldn't use abbreviations... DAB =Disambiguation. If you go to your Preferences > Gadgets > Display links to disambiguation pages in orange, DAB links will be displayed in orange so you'll notice when you are about to add a link to a DAB page. Welcome to Wikipedia! --ἀνυπόδητος (talk)16:35, 12 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion ofAttalia Trophy

[edit]
Notice

The articleAttalia Trophy has beenproposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unreferenced article for which I can find no supporting information. The handful of Google search results all reference this page. Article was created with uncertainty about notability in 2010, and PROD was suggested in 2014.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may bedeleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the{{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in youredit summary or onthe article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing{{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop theproposed deletion process, but otherdeletion processes exist. In particular, thespeedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, andarticles for deletion allows discussion to reachconsensus for deletion.SimLibrarian (talk)06:06, 15 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Bots?

[edit]

Hi Anypodetos,

Are you still into bots? I have an upcoming project to add Illustrations of the IPA to the Further reading section all of the ~200 languages that JIPA has articles for. Most of these have online soundfiles and are now free-access at CUP, and the ones that aren't will be in a few years, so they're a nice resource. One of the bot tasks would be following the ISO redirect to the correct article, which you've already worked out for Potatobot.

If you're no longer in the biz, would you be willing to mentor someone who wants to create such a bot? And could a newbie operate a bot, assuming it's a separate account and has community approval for a specific project?— kwami (talk)20:11, 10 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, and sorry for the late response. I haven't written bots for years, and I'm not doing much here at WP at the moment. I'm sure someone at theWikipedia:Bot Approvals Group can help you. Again, sorry I am not helpful here. All the best --ἀνυπόδητος (talk)09:02, 28 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. I'll ask there when we're ready to move on this.— kwami (talk)11:26, 28 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding information abouthttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interior_Schwarzschild_metric

[edit]

Dear Anypodetos,

I wanted some information about the page tagged here which you had edited. There's a table on this page that lists parameters for some astronomical objects (Earth, Sun, White Dwarf and Neutron Star). I wanted to know if this table has a relevant source like a research article or a book. Since there is no citation about the source of the table, could you please let me know from where did you get the table and its data?

Looking forward to your response.

Kind regards,JackPhyJackPhy (talk)19:21, 17 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I am researching some of the references. There are several things that aren't correctly sourced. The main line element is one of them. It may have been from an original reference that is no longer on the internet, a PDF posted onhttp://members.wavenet.at/arg/Wpdf/W5I.pdfJohnDiego (talk)01:54, 11 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
