Republic of Artsakh

Hello. In my opinion, the status of the unrecognizedRepublic of Artsakh article is incorrect. If the state does not recognize it, the country to which it belongs must also be written in its status. For example, unrecognizedAbkhazia,South Ossetia, andTransnistria are not like Arsakh in the article. Arsakh's status was written by three non-UN member states. Sorry, is this important? Does it matter? However, they are unrecognized separatist organizations. Even four countries have recognized the independence of those separatist organizations. But Arsakh was not recognized by any state. Excuse me, why isn't the Republic of Artsakh article the same as the 3 unrecognized states article? Don't you think this is a double standard?Sword313 (talk)08:00, 2 November 2020 (UTC)

I'm sorry but I have no knowledge of this article. The article talk page would be a better place for a discussion5 albert square (talk)09:39, 2 November 2020 (UTC)

Recent changes

  • You can no longer read Wikimedia wikis if your browser uses very oldTLS. This is because it is a security problem for everyone. It could lead todowngrade attacks. Since October 29, 2020, users who use old TLS versions will not be able to connect to Wikimedia projects. A list ofbrowser recommendations is available. All modern operating systems and browsers are always able to reach Wikimedia projects.[1]
  • Advanced item There is a new automatictracking category available:Pages with non-numeric formatnum arguments. It collects pages which use the{{formatnum}} parser function with invalid (non-numeric) input,e.g.{{formatnum:TECHNEWS}}. Note that{{formatnum:123,456}} is also invalid input: as described in thedocumentation, the argument should beunformatted so that it can be reliably and correctly localised. The tracking category will help identify problematic usage and double-formatting. The new tracking category's name can betranslated at translatewiki.[2]

Changes later this week

  • Recurrent item Thenew version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from November 3. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from November 4. It will be on all wikis from November 5 (calendar).
  • Administrators and stewards will be able to use a special page (Special:CreateLocalAccount) to force local account creation for a global account. This is useful when account creation is blocked for that user (by a block or a filter).[3]
  • TheReply tool will be offered as an opt-inBeta Feature on most Wikipedias on November 4. This change excludes the English, Russian, and German-language Wikipedias, plus a few smaller Wikipedias with special circumstances. You can readthe help page andthe troubleshooting guide for more information.[4]

Future changes

  • A discussion has been restarted about using a Unicode minus sign (− U+2212) in the output of{{formatnum}} when it is given a negative argument.[5]
  • In the futureIP addresses of unregistered users will not be shown for everyone. They will get an alias instead. There will be a new user right or an opt-in function for more vandal fighters to see the IPs of unregistered users. There would be some criteria for who gets the user right or opt-in. There will also be other new tools to help handle vandalism. This is early in the process and the developers are still collecting information from the communities before they suggest solutions.

  • You can seereference previews. This shows a preview of the footnote when you hover over it. This has been abeta feature. It will move out of beta and be enabled by default. There will be an option not to use it. The developers are looking for small or medium-sized wikis to be the first ones. You canlet them know if your wiki is interested.[6]
  • From November 16 the categories will not be sorted in order for a short time. This is because the developers are upgrading to a new version of theinternationalisation library. They will use a script to fix the existing categories. This can take a few hours or a few days depending on how big the wiki is. You canread more.[7][8]

Trueman31

Hello – I've received a message on my talk page about a sockpuppet case regardingTrueman31. I was reading the (extensive) investigations that have taken place regarding this editor, and noticed that you have got significant knowledge of this case. 99% of the time, I would deal with any vandals but since you seem to know the case in depth, would you be able to deal with this?DarkGlow ()22:23, 20 November 2020 (UTC)

Any idea how Okeh8000 is compromised?4thfile4thrank (talk)03:29, 3 December 2020 (UTC)

I did explain a bit more on their talk page. The edits up until the blocking date looked OK. Then suddenly a load of vandalism which didn't add up with previous edits, the manner of editing, plus what they were saying was completely different which led me to believe someone else was accessing the account. Looking at the user talk now they're saying that they left themselves signed in on a device and someone else made those edits.5 albert square (talk)11:38, 3 December 2020 (UTC)

Recent changes

  • You can now put pages on your watchlist for a limited period of time. Some wikis already had this function.[17][18]

Changes later this week

  • Information from Wikidata that is used on a wiki page can be shown in recent changes and watchlists on a Wikimedia wiki. To see this you need to turn on showing Wikidata edits in your watchlist in the preferences. Changes to the Wikidata description in the language of a Wikimedia wiki will then be shown in recent changes and watchlists. This will not show edits to languages that are not relevant to your wiki.[19][20]

124.169.237.27

Thank you for intervening with124.169.237.27 (talk ·contribs ·deleted contribs ·filter log ·WHOIS ·RDNS ·RBLs ·http ·block user ·block log). In case you were not aware, that IP was part of aIP range that was blocked for a week124.169.224.0/19 (block range ·block log (global) ·WHOIS (partial)) beginning back on November 25. SeeWP:ANI IP-hopping_editor_from_Adelaide for more background. I would not be surprised if the editor hops over to a new IP. But even if the editor waits out the current block, I fully expect them to resume their odd and disruptive editing behavior. In any event, thanks again for addressing the current behavior. –108.56.139.120 (talk)03:50, 9 December 2020 (UTC)

It looks like our IP-hopper from Adelaide has hopped over to a new IP:124.169.242.95 (talk ·contribs ·deleted contribs ·filter log ·WHOIS ·RDNS ·RBLs ·http ·block user ·block log). The edits are innocuous and useless, but do follow the same pattern of decapitalizing template names on pages (including redirect pages). I suppose a case could be argued that this is block evasion since the block on 124.169.237.27 has not yet expired. Just something to monitor. –108.56.139.120 (talk)22:03, 10 December 2020 (UTC)
124.169.242.95 hasreverted your reversion of 124.169.237.27's edits and made some unsourced changes atWilliam Sanderson. I believe this is the same editor and thus is a case of block evasion. Maybe theIP range 124.169.224.0/19 should be blocked again, but this time for at least 2 weeks instead of the previous 1 week? I realize, though, that blocking an entire range for one specific editor potentially excludes other anonymous editors with good-faith edits. –108.56.139.120 (talk)23:25, 10 December 2020 (UTC)
