More wikis are now testing visual editor section editing for mobile users. You canread more.
A map update caused some problems on 29 March and 30 March. It was rolled back.[4]
Pages on some Wikivoyages had problems with the top headline. This has been fixed.[5]
Changes later this week
When you add an edit summary the VisualEditor will search your recent edit summaries in case you want to re-use one. This works in both thevisual andwikitext modes on desktop. It also workson the mobile site.[6]
The{{REVISIONID}} magic word will no longer work. This is for performance reasons. When you preview a page it will return"" (empty string). When you read a page it will return"-" (dash). For now this will only affect content namespaces.[8]
Thenew version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 9 April. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 10 April. It will be on all wikis from 11 April (calendar).

You will be able to preview references. This means that when you hover over the link you will get a popup that shows you a preview of the reference. It will work much likepage previews. This is so you don't have to go to the bottom of the page to see a reference. This will now be available as a beta feature on German and Arabic Wikipedia.[9][10]
The WikidataJSON output will change. Empty containers will be serialised as empty objects. This is a breaking change that will affect tools that use JSON outputs and APIs. It will happen on 30 April. You canread more and see how to test your code.
just wondering about the revert of my edit onTilly Keeper, is there a certain rule/guideline against using promo pics on actor pages? i thought the photo was much better & more up to date than the current one. –DarkGlow (talk)20:40, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
Yes - there'sWP:FREER which states "Non-free content cannot be used in cases where afree content equivalent, with an acceptable quality sufficient to serve the encyclopedic purpose, is available or could be created'.AnemoneProjectors took a photo of Tilly Keeper at a meet and greet event at the BBC, therefore a free image exists, therefore a non-free image cannot be used. The image you replaced it with has restrictions when it can be used because it is copyrighted to the BBC.--5 albert square (talk)20:58, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
AlsoDarkGlow, just to add to what I said above, even ifAnemoneProjectors hadn't taken a photo of Tilly Keeper, we still wouldn't be able to use the publicity photo on her article simply because she is still alive therefore another free alternative would still be possible. The only time we can really add something like a publicity photo to that type of article is when the subject of the article has died and that's because the likelihood of Wikipedia ever getting a free alternative is greatly reduced. You also have to be careful about how you apply photos to Wikipedia so the article isn't unnecessarily dominated by them. For example, when I metShane Richie I took a photo of him and I uploaded it to Commons so either they or any of the other Wikipedias can use it if they want to, however the English Wikipedia isn't using it because there's no need for it because it doesn't show anything different to what the current image shows.--5 albert square (talk)08:17, 11 April 2019 (UTC)
Imay be meeting Tilly at the Soap Awards in June, so if I remember, I’ll get a photo of her so it can be updated. That’ll be ok right? –DarkGlow (talk)08:21, 11 April 2019 (UTC)
@AnemoneProjectors: BTW, I hope you don’t feel as though I’m trying to push your image out! I’ve never added an image to Wiki so it would be fun to have my image on Tilly’s article, if possible! Have a great day –DarkGlow (talk)08:48, 11 April 2019 (UTC)
@DarkGlow: Well, you sort of were lol but if you do meet her and get a photo then great, you can replace mine. She had the window behind her when I met her and I had the same problem with Jamie Borthwick and Rita Simons. I should have used the flash like I did for Emma Barton but it's too late now! :-) Is there anyone else you might be meeting at the Soap Awards? —🌼📽️AnemoneProjectors💬08:55, 11 April 2019 (UTC)
I don't think he's been in anything since EastEnders so I'd say it's highly unlikely he'll be there. DarkGlow, AP actually received a Twitter message from Danny-Boy asking him to remove the image we had of him on the English Wikipedia, we think it was because the image showed that he had a small spot on his chin! Someone removed it from Wikipedia, he also asked for it to be removed from Commons but that'll never happen because it doesn't break any of their rules. Personally I'd be more worried that his filmography reads that he's basically done nothing since EastEnders!--5 albert square (talk)09:20, 11 April 2019 (UTC)
I’ll try to get photos of everyone from any of the 5 soaps, as I should be able to meet virtually everyone who steps on the red carpet, if they stop! And, if only Danny-Boy spent that time booking roles rather than surfing his own Wikipedia... –DarkGlow (talk)09:37, 11 April 2019 (UTC)

There is an user that keeps edit-warring on my own talk page. I asked him to stop but he continues to vandalize. He did it a total of 21 times already. I would not complain about it but this situation needs to stop. This is really getting annoying.HÊÚL. (talk)03:24, 2 May 2019 (UTC)
HÊÚL. It's because theydon't understand why you keep removing them. They're saying that they spoke toSergecross73 who told them that the comment could be deleted as there was no replies apparently. Maybe you could post on their talk page explaining why you would like the comment kept? Also, please remember to include anedit summary whenever you are editing a page - including user talk pages. Edit summaries help other users understand your edits and could have prevented this at the start.--5 albert square (talk)10:20, 2 May 2019 (UTC)
First of all, there is not a "they", just a "he". Also Sergecross said to him that since it is my talk page I can delete or keep whatever I want. The reversion is the best reply he deserves. I never imagined that I needed to explain it because (I think) he is not a kid. And what about theedit warring and the 3RR?HÊÚL. (talk)11:43, 2 May 2019 (UTC)
I think both editors are being silly. There’s no particular reason why the message needs to be kept or deleted. Both should stop wasting the time of other editors, and their own time, on this.Sergecross73msg me00:38, 3 May 2019 (UTC)
Really sorry, I'll put a definite stop to this. I apologize for wasting other's time and I'll move on from this silliness. Thanks in advance.Namcokid47 (talk)04:05, 3 May 2019 (UTC)
Recently, several Wikipedia admin accounts were compromised. The admin accounts weredesysopped on an emergency basis. In the past, the Committee often resysopped admin accounts as a matter of course once the admin was back in control of their account. The committee has updated its guidelines. Admins may now be required to undergo a freshRequest for Adminship (RfA) after losing control of their account.
What do I need to do?
Only to follow the instructions in this message.
Check that your password is unique (not reused across sites).
Check that your password is strong (not simple or guessable).
Enable Two-factor authentication (2FA), if you can, to create a second hurdle for attackers.
How can I find out more about two-factor authentication (2FA)?
Administrator account security (Correction to Arbcom 2019 special circular)
ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community.
Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they arerequired to "have strong passwords andfollow appropriate personal security practices." We haveupdated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular,two-factor authentication remains anoptional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised.
We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered.
