Dead Meat Explanation

[edit]

Long story short i put the wrong name. i put "dead meat" instead of "dead meat youtube channel" on my first draft and i didn't know how to change it. so if @Bonadea can recheck my page for an article that would be great. this was a just a misunderstanding and i was totally my fault.apologies

first time editor, 1timeuse751timeuse75 (talk)12:32, 21 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Fair enough - Wikipedia has a lot of weird customs and practices, and it takes a while to learn how it works. Please do not blank the other draft, since it was created by a different editor; the existence ofDraft:Dead Meat won't affect your new draft (which is clearly much better than the old one, at this point). Happy editing! --bonadeacontributionstalk16:07, 21 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:The thumbnail of Plagiarism and You(Tube).jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploadingFile:The thumbnail of Plagiarism and You(Tube).jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required byWikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available fromWikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as animage copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance withsection F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at themedia copyright questions page. Thank you.Sock(tock talk)18:52, 10 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

my apologies @Sock. Can you give me more details and why this isn't fair use, so I don't make the same mistake again?
Cheers1timeuse75 (talk)19:03, 10 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
No apology needed, we've all been there!WP:FAIRUSE (and specificallyWP:NFCI) covers it in detail, but that page is pretty beefy so I'll summarize my reasoning for this case. The big thing with fair use images is that they have to be either irreplaceable or provide extra insight that can't be described in text.
For example, if you upload an image that's the only usable visual identifier of something, like a movie poster or album cover, that's covered. If you upload something like a screenshot from a movie or game, you need to also include context for why that image is a necessity and can't be described in text.
The image you added would 100% be fair use if the article was specifically about Plagiarism and You(Tube), but since it's just about Hbomberguy and hasn't been critically dissected, its inclusion doesn't really do anything for the reader other than be a nice visual.
Tried to keep the babbling to a minimum, but I hope that makes sense! Feel free to fire off any questions as well and I'll help/clarify as best I can.Sock(tock talk)19:55, 10 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
hey man, thanks for been so nice, i forget that "Wikipedians" are very nice. i have just have one more question
1a) in the third paragraph you basically say that you can't have media (thumbnail/poster) about anything relating to the article like Hbomberguy can't have Plagiarism and You(Tube) because the article isn't about Plagiarism and You(Tube) . off the top of my head i can think of two examples of this, that i want clarified.Once in a Lifetime (Talking Heads song) have a section about themusic video with a photo. the image is showing that "In the music video,David Byrne dances erratically over footage of religious rituals, dressed in a suit, bowtie and glasses." and not just the thumbnail so i was wondering if maybe a still from Plagiarism and You(Tube) can be add? (like the part where Brewis show James scrip with all plagiarized stuff coloured)
1b)Ghostwatch which is in short is a British mockumentary horror film. near the end of the article there's a part about the making of ghostwatch,Ghostwatch: Behind the Curtains. but the article is about the original film? the only real difference is really the infobox which i don't think matters (maybe it dose i don't know).
anyway thanks thanks for helping, Cheers1timeuse75 (talk)06:54, 11 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Sock cheak my last message. i forgot to @ you1timeuse75 (talk)14:10, 16 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I think an image of him showing the plagiarized script would work wonderfully! That keeps in spirit with the visual on the Once in a Lifetime article, where the image is striking and described in the text. The visual Brewis created with the highlighted text accents the focus of the video and gives readers a great visual of the extent of Somerton's "alleged" plagiarism, which I'd absolutely say falls under fair use.
Regarding theGhostwatch: Behind the Curtains poster, I personally have mixed feelings about both the inclusion of the image and the subsection not being its own article. Historically, we don't include things like deluxe edition cover art for albums since it's not an essential distinction to note, but there are instances where the artwork itself is discussed enough that its inclusion can be warranted. I'll say that falls a bit outside the scope of our conversation, but I'm glad you're observing and questioning all this! Fair use is a muddy thing and I'm not a definitive source on it, so please don't take my word as definitive!Sock(tock talk)14:21, 16 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi 1timeuse75!

I've spotted that the author/copyright owner name field of non-free use rationale is incorrect as it's a screenshot of a video game. In that case you need to use name of the developer and publisher of the game, not the ones who took screenshot, since the developer(s) and/or publisher are the copyright owners of the game.

I've fixed for you. I hope you remember that for the next time you upload screenshot of non-free media, like video games, movies, computer software, etc.Stylez995 (talk)13:26, 21 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Introduction to contentious topics

[edit]

You have recently edited a page related toarticles aboutliving or recently deceased people, and edits relating to the subject (living or recently deceased) of such biographical articles, a topic designated ascontentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics anddoesnot imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to ascontentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by theArbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia's norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipediaadministrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should editcarefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topicsprocedures, you may ask them at thearbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topichere. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the{{Ctopics/aware}} template.Doug Wellertalk14:08, 24 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The Oldest View Title Card

[edit]

Hi. I noticed that you added the third episode thumbnail forThe Oldest View article. I was considering adding a title card, but was having trouble deciding which of the two below would be better. Plus, I don't really know what licensing each of the photos have so we can fairly use either of them.

IMO i think using an official image from the series is better then a (i think) fan made title card. Also seeNo Through Road (web series) for an example of the same image format as the TOV article1timeuse75 (talk)11:34, 5 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Offer for Help With a Draft

[edit]

Hi there! I spotted you editing some things on my watchlist and got curious given our shared interest in both lost media and the macabre (I saw you editChristine Chubbuck andLiveLeak specifically). I sawCatastrophe Crow! on your "Articles I Want to Create" list and wanted to see if you were open to collaborating together on a draft article for it? I have a draft of my own in the works about a horror novel, but I want to work more closely with other users on another project. I'm hoping you're open to it?⚠︎ ArkadenBoden ⚠︎ (talk)15:12, 24 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, am open to it! What is the draft in question?1timeuse75 (talk)15:18, 24 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I was originally thinking of doing a draft for Catastrophe Crow itself, but I think starting with A̶r̶t̶h̶u̶r̶ Adam Butcher himself will work. I think it's the best idea to create the article about Butcher and then split whatever we write about Crow 64 after the article is published. I'm open to creating the actual draft page itself later but I'm a bit busy at the moment, so you may if you'd like.

@ArkadenBoden Okay, i've startedthe draft1timeuse75 (talk)17:47, 24 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Awesome! I'll get to work on it soon.
