My name is Tamzin. Yes, that'sa real name. I am, from most to least important, a reader of Wikipedia articles, a writer of Wikipedia articles, and someone who does some behind-the-scenes work on Wikipedia. (I am also a lot of other things unrelated to Wikipedia, like atokiponist and a tattoo enthusiast.)The articles I write tend to touch on law, violence, Internet culture, religion, and LGBTQ issues, and the intersections thereof. I hold a few privileged accesses behind the scenes, includingadministrator, global renamer,SPI clerk, andbot operator ('zinbot), but I'm something of a cynic about how this site operates. I think it's amazing what we're doing, and think our culture improves each year, but I remain critical ofour shitty backroom culture that often conflates social capital with moral rectitude, and still limit my involvement in certain administrative areas. When I do administrative work, I have (or try to have) near-infinite patience for people who aretrying to improve the encyclopedia andable to contribute constructively, but very little patience for those who aren't. I find that, a disturbing percentage of the time, our administrative venues take the exact opposite approach.

If you find yourself spending more time talking about the people who write Wikipedia than being one of those people, remember that you can fix that today:

May your memory forever be for a blessing, O ComradeVami_IV (1999–2024). You gave this communityso much and you deserved so much better thanwhat it gave you—and you still kept giving, nevertheless.)

Several things that make editing easier

    [edit]

Thepipe trick exists and I feel like a lot of people don't know about that because it doesn't show up in diffs. (Update: This has since been confirmed by multiplefunctionaries telling me they hadn't heard of it till they read this.)

I useTwinkle,RedWarn, andpopups for a whole bunch of useful things. The first two's relevance depends on your editing style, but I think popups is indispensable to any editor. At XfDs I useXFDCloser.

    Three controversial opinions about Wikipedia

    [edit]
    1. WP:NODISCLAIMERS has outlived its usefulness. As a major provider of information to a global audience, we should hold ourselves to disclaimer standards similar to those of major media organizations.
    2. We should not allowBLPs about people who do not unambiguously meetGNG, as established by references that are actually in their articles. Any BLP subject who has not been the subject of long-term coverage in reliable sources as an adult should be able to have their article deleted on request.
    3. It's spelled "lede".

    Cetacean needed

    [edit]

This section used to say I was lying aboutneeding cetaceans, but as of May 2025, I do in fact find myself lacking in them. I don't really miss America, but I do miss the best neighbors a !girl could ever ask for. Stay safe, my bottlenosed friends.

Three dolphins dive in the midground on the left, swimming toward the right of the frame. In the background on the right, a fairly large vehicle ferry sails toward the left of the frame. In the foreground, a beach of brown sand with some black rock outcroppings toward the waterline.
