Since then, I’ve been an active contributor, focusing on creating and improving articles about Myanmar’s history, notable figures, military, and government. As a participant inWikiProject Myanmar, I’ve dedicated myself to documenting underrepresented topics with accuracy and balance. On 18 February 2024, I achieved extended confirmed user status, and with over 2,256 edits, my journey here has only just begun.
The nameKhantWiki came from simply combining my real, personal born name, Khant Thwin Ko Ko, with the name of Wikipedia and shortening it to Wiki, which led to the creation of KhantWiki.
Editing Wikipedia for me goes beyond adding facts or correcting errors—it’s deeply personal. When I began, it was driven by a desire to address gaps in the representation of Myanmar’s history, people, and pivotal events. I noticed that many important figures and stories—especially the lesser-known ones—were underrepresented or entirely missing. That realization inspired me to take action and help preserve and share these stories with the world, building a more complete and accurate record for future generations.
One of the most rewarding aspects of my journey here has been connecting with the Wikipedia community. Working alongside people from all over the world who share a passion for accuracy and open knowledge has been an inspiring experience. The collaboration, shared learning, and collective effort to create something bigger than ourselves have given me a profound sense of purpose.

I began my journey on Wikipedia on 18 July 2023 under the username Khant99. Initially, my contributions were focused on editing articles related to Myanmar and history, which has always been a personal area of interest. On 4 January 2024, I created my first user page, marking the beginning of a more active phase in my editing journey. I was eager to engage with the Wikipedia community and contribute to its mission, but I was still finding my voice and refining my approach.
On 24 January 2024, I decided to change my username to KhantExploreWiki, hoping to better reflect my passion for exploring Wikipedia’s vast array of topics. I was looking for a name that resonated more with my editing focus, one that symbolized my curiosity and determination. However, after some reflection, I realized that KhantExploreWiki didn’t quite align with my personal identity on the platform. I briefly considered adopting Khant Thwin, which felt more personal, but soon realized it didn’t capture my essence as a Wikipedia editor. This led me to my final decision on 31 January 2024, when I renamed myself to KhantWiki, a name I felt was iconic, memorable, and fitting for my ongoing journey on Wikipedia. This change represented a fresh start, and the simplicity of the name helped me connect more authentically with the platform.
However, my path was not without its challenges. On 11 January 2024, I faced a setback that made me question my place in the Wikipedia community. After spending considerable time and effort contributing to articles, I found myself discouraged when some of my edits were reverted. I felt that my contributions weren’t being accepted, and this disheartened me deeply. Overwhelmed by these feelings of rejection, I took drastic steps. I blanked my user page, requested its deletion, and even marked myself as retired from Wikipedia. It was a moment of frustration, where I almost gave up entirely.
But after taking some time away from the platform, I began to reflect on my journey. I realized that setbacks and criticism are an inevitable part of any creative process, and that giving up would mean abandoning all the progress I had made. I had contributed valuable work, and I had learned and grown through the challenges. On 17 January 2024, I decided to return to Wikipedia. It wasn’t an easy decision, but I came to understand that perseverance and resilience were key to success. I couldn’t let one difficult experience define my journey.
Upon my return, I changed my username to KhantExploreWiki, a fresh start in terms of my attitude, editing style, and approach to the community. This new name symbolized my renewed determination to continue contributing positively to Wikipedia. I became more committed to engaging with the community, adhering to Wikipedia's guidelines, and learning from my mistakes. I recognized that every editor faces challenges, but it’s how we handle those challenges that shapes our growth. I shifted my mindset and focused on improving my skills and adding valuable content.
As part of my ongoing commitment, I received the Novice Editor service badge on 1 April 2024, marking the first major milestone in my journey. This achievement boosted my confidence and reinforced my belief that persistence pays off. Later, on 26 July 2024, I was awarded the Apprentice Editor service badge, which was a testament to my growth and dedication as an editor. These milestones weren’t just about recognition; they reflected my evolving approach to Wikipedia and the progress I had made as a contributor.
Additionally, on 23 January 2024, I received an invitation to join the WikiProject Myanmar community from User:EmeraldRange. This opportunity made me feel even more accomplished, as I had the chance to collaborate with other like-minded editors passionate about contributing to Wikipedia’s coverage of Myanmar. The invitation provided a sense of belonging and further motivated me to continue improving my editing skills.
Through this journey, I’ve come to understand the importance of resilience, motivation, and discipline. I learned not to be discouraged by setbacks and to take them as opportunities for growth. Each name change, each challenge, and each milestone represents a chapter in my evolution as a Wikipedia editor. I now embrace my role on Wikipedia with a deeper understanding of its mission and my personal goals.
Looking back, I take pride in my journey, and I feel more connected to the Wikipedia community.
